What you need to know about the role The primary role of the MTS1, Software Engineer on the Payments SOR Team is to provide technical and domain expertise in the design and delivery of software and infrastructure. Meet our team As a leader of this critical payments domain, you would be responsible for powering 40M transactions & 4B lookups everyday for our customers. You would need to work across all business units, including PayPal, Braintree, Venmo, Xoom, HyperWallet and others. We need to encourage our talent to push our technology forward with respect to functionality, performance, reliability, and scalability.

The ideal candidate understands the complexity of a fully scaled out micro services architecture and can make intuitive judgements on how to support it in a highly reliable and effective manner.  In addition to addressing the need of the environment, you should also be a super star leader who builds relationships with product and platform development leaders and organizations.  You’ll work alongside the best and the brightest engineering talent in the industry. As a core participant of your team, you’ll estimate engineering efforts, prioritize projects, plan implementations, and triage production issues. You need to be dynamic, collaborative, and curious as we build new experiences, improve existing products, and develop distributed systems powering the world’s largest e-commerce and payments websites at a scale only a few companies can match. 

Your day to day activities:

  • Drive a results-oriented culture with a strong focus on engineering excellence, execution, and craftsmanship as a Customer Champion.
  • Develop trusted partnerships with developers, partners, and architecture leaders to drive optimized platform product delivery.
  • Design, build and operate scalable solutions at the heart of PayPal
  • Build and take operational responsibility of realtime and near realtime services used by millions of users
  • Be a valued member of an autonomous, cross-functional agile team, contributing to design and code reviews
  • Mentor other engineers on the team and provide technical leadership

What do you need to bring

  • 8+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Experience building a scalable, production-grade micro-services/API based platform
  • Excellent problem-solving, team, and time management skills
  • Understanding of oracle database.
  • Knowledge of Java tech stacks (Spring, Spring Boot, JPA / Hibernate)
  • Understanding of TDD and unit testing using frameworks like Junit / TestNG
