Lead Software Engineer - Java/Bigdata

What you need to know about the role? PayPal Data Governance team is looking for Backend/Data Engineers to help us develop and enhance our engineering capabilities across PayPal to innovate and improve our products in the analytics space. Meet the Team: Data Governance Engineering Organization owns data products like DataALM, Data Destruction, Catalogue, Scanning, Lineage that cater to building APIs for ML/Data Science engineers for their algorithms and play a critical role in data governance, retention and lineage. Gateway for building Cloud or OnPrem applications for analytical use cases.

Your way to impact:

• Building the data lineages/destruction pipelines across multiple datastores, zones for Governance and Data science/ML consumption.
• Enabling product teams to build cloud applications for analytical use cases.

Your day to day:

• In your day to day role you will interact with cross functional teams to:
• Design, Develop & implement foundational platforms using technologies like Java and Spring related technologies.
• Work on cloud technologies like GCP BQ, GCS, Dataproc etc
• Deal with with Relational and non-relational databases.
• Create innovative features and data for payment strategies and models, align with stakeholders and implement these capabilities
• Collaborate with other Engineers, data scientists, product managers and engineers to formulate innovative ideas, and test / implement through advanced engineering techniques.
• Lead multiple projects focusing on impact as well as mentor junior members of the team

What you need to bring?

• Should have 9+ years of hands-on experience in designing and developing scalable web services and platforms.
• Proficient in Java, J2EE and related technologies.
• Experience in architecture, designing & developing high performance, scalable and available web services (predominantly REST architecture using JEE
• Experienced in using frameworks such as Spring/rest easy
• Experience with messaging services such as Kafka/Active MQ
• Strong data modelling skills with relational databases , elastic search, Hadoop, Cassandra
• Mentor Junior engineers
• Effective communication skills
