What you need to know about the role You will be responsible for quickly and accurately triaging reported production issues. You will partner with engineering colleagues and PayPal partners to resolve production issues rapidly and restore customer functionality. You should have a strong sense of ownership of the application stack, great analytical and problem-solving skills, in-depth knowledge of the latest technologies, the ability to self-learn, and attention to detail. You should be able to work independently and within a team. This role includes a week-long on-call shift once per month to ensure 24x7 support. This position is based in Chennai and may require travel of up to 15% to PayPal locations (North America and infrequently to international offices). Meet Our Team Payments Partner Experience is a 24x7 dedicated triage and the live-support team responsible for over 1 billion transactions per month supporting PayPal, Braintree, Venmo, and over 70+ external ecosystem partners. This team triages over 300+ issues monthly, ensuring that the proper team and external vendors are engaged for service restoration. We operate the world's best payments platform supporting bank, card, rewards, and PayPal balance transactions utilizing an extensive worldwide network of external real-time payment processing partners. The payments Partner Experience team is looking for a strong and well-rounded engineer with an investigative mind, great troubleshooting/debugging skills, and strong customer focus with experience in the payments eco-system.

 This is an opportunity to be a technical leader within payment’s engineering quality team. Core Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: 

  • Triage and troubleshoot issues for PayPal products and applications on the live site. 

  • Collaborate with product development teams and various business groups to prioritize, identify, and develop reliability and supportability improvements. 

  • Engage in the automation of daily activities that drive operational excellence and ensure highly productive operating procedures. 

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with cross-vertical teams such as Product Management, Product Development, Site Reliability, and Operations. 

  • Provide and/or review daily, weekly, and quarterly platform goals/metrics to stakeholders. 

  • Weekend and after-hours support, on a rotating schedule, is required.  

What do you need to bring

  •  10+ years of relevant industry experience in software product development  

  • Ability to drive communication with external partners, processors, and vendors. 

  • Strong time management skills and ability to work on concurrent assignments with different priorities. 

  • Excellent problem-solving skills 

  • Experience in developing, troubleshooting/debugging complex multi-tier applications. 

  • Triage and Resolve issues with very little help or direction and show command and expertise in various PayPal products. 

  • Experience in operational detection/monitoring activities and exposure to P0/P1 incident management activities 

Your day to day

  • Demonstrate business acumen while providing technical solutions and communicating clearly while liaising with our customers and stakeholders. 

  • Handle escalations and represent SRE while interfacing with PayPal Command Centre, MTS/CSTS, Release Management, Release Engineering, and problem management. 

  • Communicate effectively and demonstrate resourcefulness and ability in accessing impacts and facilitating faster resolution to delight customers. 

  • Provide valuable Issue Intelligence for the major issues: By Identifying applications, monitoring, process, and product gaps and proposing [short-term] implement solutions to address them. Drive long-term solutions with technology/product teams when appropriate. 

  • Proactive in suggesting permanent solutions for various site-related issues. 

  • Identifies opportunities for engineer productivity improvements or directions and evangelizes them successfully. 

  • Work well within a team and contribute effectively to the success of those that they interact with regularly. 

  • Proven ability to step up and lead by managing team workload and task prioritization. 

  • Develop strong working relationships across levels and functions. Facilitate problem diagnosis and resolution in relevant areas. 

  • Work with product development teams and various business groups to prioritize, identify and develop reliability and supportability improvements. 

  • Interact with the various PD organizations in forums such as conferences and workshops. 

  • Proficiency in an object-oriented programming language, Java (preferred) or C++ 

  • Experience with SQL, Tableau, Unix/Linux, Git, Jira, Service Now 

  • Scripting languages (Shell, Perl, Python, JavaScript) are a plus 

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
