Meet our team GFCCP Data Engineering & Infra team. The Global Financial Crimes & Customer Protection (GFCCP) organisation is responsible for detecting and preventing financial crimes and providing protection and remediation paths for PayPal’s customers. GFCCP must run efficient and effective programs requiring data-driven insights to drive world-class back-office strategies, processes, policies, systems, and tools. Successful candidates will offer a solid technical foundation, deep analytical capabilities, and a collaborative working style. They will gain an innate intellectual curiosity and a desire to build a deep understanding of PayPal’s products and data ecosystem. Skills in problem-solving, critical thinking and handling large volumes of data will be advantageous. The candidate will interact with global cross-functional teams to address complex business requirements. The successful candidate will have exceptional interpersonal skills, abilities to manage conflicting priorities to a defined timeline, and strong project management and communication skills. Your way to impact

  • Own the production, development, and maintenance of all aspects of Data Engineering solutions – ETL, Data Quality, Documentation, and Support
  • Hands-on experience in understanding various data models and business functionality.
  • Demonstrate ability to translate business questions into structured and idempotent data pipelines that can power data analytics for aiding business insights.
  • Design and build data models in challenging timeframes via rapid prototyping and agile development.
  • Apply industry best practices to create optimised data solutions.
  • Perform rigorous data analysis to proactively identify any inconsistencies or data quality issues. Provide recommendations for improvements.
  • Develop a strong understanding of different data sources, and strategically implement data flow for robustness and scalability.
  • Work to improve the day-to-day activities of the analytics team with technology and automation.
  • A strong articulate communicator with business acumen who can work efficiently and effectively with key stakeholders across multiple teams and geographies to define and produce business metrics and insights within a given time frame
  • A persistent person who has the willingness to spend time in an area and become an SME in that domain.

Your day to day

  • Work on MPP systems like Teradata and understand the architecture/functioning of any distributed systems.
  • Apply strong SQL skills in the area of performance optimization and rapidly build/debug data pipelines.
  • Build robust and efficient data models encompassing industry best practices.
  • Work on scheduling tools for orchestrating ETL pipelines. (Preferably UC4/Airflow/Control-M)
  • Build basic to advanced Python/Shell scripts to provide an easy experience with file handling and automations.
  • Work on cloud platforms to provide data engineering solutions
  • Document the data products and standard operational procedures that aid in terms of managing the pipeline in the near to long run.
  • Work on handling large volumes of data in the optimal means.
  • Work on other bigdata technologies like spark and hive as needed.

What do you need to bring

  • Experience in working on MPP (massive parallel processing) systems like Teradata
  • Strong SQL skills to understand the existing codebase and techniques to optimize the new and old code.
  • Ability to comprehend the data needs and build efficient data models encompassing industry best practices.
  • Scripting skills (python/shell) that aid in the automation of repeated tasks.
  • Working knowledge of any cloud platform like GCP/AWS/Azure (Knowledge of Google BigQuery and DataProc is a plus)
  • Exposure to bigdata ecosystem (especially hive and spark) is a plus.
