We also help merchants connect with their customers, process exchanges and returns, and manage risk. We enable consumers to engage in cross-border shopping and merchants to extend their global reach while reducing the complexity and friction involved in enabling cross-border trade.

As a Software Engineer 2, you will be developing back-end Java applications. You will leverage your technical expertise to build solutions that empower our customers to effortlessly access and manage credit services. Looking for a backend engineer with relevant working experience who will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver impactful solutions through established software development lifecycle framework.

The GML team (Global Merchant Lending) is part of SMB & Financial Services group within PayPal. The Team owns a variety of Lending Products like PayPal Working Capital, PayPal Business Loan etc. operating in markets across the world. GML products give SMBs, the access to the capital they need, but faster and easier than traditional loans. The impact we have on our customers’ businesses is what drives us to innovate.

Your day to day:

• Own implementation of a module/application/product 
• Develop, test, and deploy robust software solutions using Java in a Linux/Unix environment, ensuring high performance, security, and scalability.
• Participate in complex architectural discussions that involve multiple systems. 
• Identify any product/functionality gaps and collaborate internal product and technology teams to define the necessary development to support solution delivery. 
• Take care of operation excellence process and guideline. Contribute to troubleshooting and resolving production issues.
• Pro-active response in identifying and troubleshooting integration or technical issues. 
• Challenge the status quo when needed. 
• Ownership and strive for excellence in your role. 
• Mentor and train new team members, sharing your knowledge and experience to help onboard them onto the team quickly and efficiently, fostering a culture of learning and continuous improvement.

What do you need to bring:

• A bachelor’s degree in computer science or an equivalent combination of
  technical education and work experience.
• 5+ years’ experience building software or web applications with object oriented or functional programming languages. 
• Expert knowledge in Java, J2EE, REST 
• Deep understanding of and extensive experience applying advanced object-oriented design and development principles.
• Intermediate level understanding of designing and developing data intensive applications and architecting them for scalability and availability.
• Demonstrated ability to scope, create and successfully deploy new strategy/ initiatives / capabilities. 
• Experience applying software design patterns, data structures, algorithms.
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong debugging and problem resolution skills
• Focuses on test driven development and automation.
• Experience collaborating with business users to define the key business requirements and translate them into process/technical solutions.
• Experience developing automated unit, integration, and functional tests,
  preferably in a Java environment using tools like JUnit, Mockito, or Spring Test.
• Competent in software engineering tools (e.g. Java build tools) and best practices (e.g. unit testing, test automation, continuous integration, etc.)
• Experience to interact with engineering teams from multiple geo-locations. 
• Should have good communication skills. 
• Expertise in online payments and related domains is a plus
