26 - Staff Software Engineer

The Pricing and FX team is responsible for the systems that support fee and foreign exchange (FX) for PayPal’s payments system. Other systems that are developed and supported by the team provide the ability to set up experiments in price sensitivity as well as suggest optimal pricing strategies based on historic data and develop various FX capabilities to assist PayPal’s treasury team on their day-to-day currency management activities.

Your Day to Day:

• You will work in a scrum team implementing feature functionality in the Pricing system.
• Answer queries about the Pricing system for clients, tracking down and fixing defects.
• Be heavily involved in design meetings to propose, discuss and refine new features and functionality.
• Build new APIs to enhance the portfolio of PayPal’s 3rd most popular service.
• Build performance sensitive systems that serve tens of millions of requests each day.
• Build and take operational responsibility of Java/C++ services that serve millions of users
• Be an active voice in architectural decisions for PayPal’s core payments system
• Be a master of your own destiny error code. Build robust testing scripts/systems to break our APIs and eventually fix them

What you need to bring:

• Demonstrable programming abilities in Java – other languages like Node, Python, AngularJS a plus.
• Understanding of strong algorithmic techniques, design patterns and best practices.
• Curiosity about how things work and the behavior of finding the answers. Flexible and adapting the changing circumstances, tenacious.
• Strong experience and knowledge with relational databases, NoSQL databases, Unix
• Solid experience with micro-service Architectures and REST API framework.
• Cloud migration experience (AWS and/or GCP)
• Bachelors OR Masters with 8+ years of experience
