About the Job

We’re hiring a Senior Database Engineer to architect Ossium’s data infrastructure and advance key data-driven business initiatives. You will use input from leadership on overarching business objectives to design, build, improve, and maintain data management systems that allow Ossium to make quick, accurate decisions and easily access and share data with internal and external stakeholders.

An excellent candidate will be able to design, build, and manage SQL databases, utilize APIs to design, develop, and maintain data pipelines, and use their strong analytical skills to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information accurately to team members across departments and levels within Ossium. The Senior Database Engineer will play a critical role in not only creating databases but also in defining Ossium’s approach to data, using both technical knowledge and strong business judgment to help colleagues refine their data needs.

You will create tools and databases that allow the company to provide data and interface with critical outside groups such as physicians, partners, and regulatory organizations. In this role, you will work with Tech management to prioritize operations, business, quality, and information needs and will have the opportunity to collaborate closely with subject matter experts in various departments. You will report to the Associate Director of Technology.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in computer science, data science, IT, or related field
  • 4+ years architecting, designing, and implementing databases within AWS, Google Cloud, or Microsoft Azure
  • 5+ years working hands-on with at least one programming language (e.g. .Net or Python)
  • Experience importing and exporting data sets through APIs and migrating data between different stacks (cloud migration is a plus)
  • Technical expertise regarding data models, database management, and reporting
  • Proven ability to collaborate with various departments to identify and analyze needs through data collection, analysis, and designing and implementing data pipelines and tools
  • Ability to quickly learn business objectives to prioritize projects and to collect inputs from various teams across the organization and translate those into data sets
  • This position is based in our San Francisco office; we maintain a hybrid schedule of Monday - Thursday in the office, with Friday as a remote work day
  • This position requires light travel (once a quarter) to our Indianapolis facility

Preferred Qualifications

  • Data engineering certification
  • Experience designing, building, and maintaining data processing systems (internal or web-based)
  • Experience designing and building complex scalable databases on cloud (e.g. AWS RDS)

Key Responsibilities

  • Use your technical expertise to drill down to the critical data needs of stakeholders, structuring complicated or unclear requests
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines; build out new API integrations to support continuing increases in data volume and complexity
  • Learn business requirements and objectives and develop and implement databases, data collection systems, and data analytics to optimally meet these needs
  • Create dashboards and data visualizations that avoid the need for further data manipulation, allowing colleagues to access exactly what they need instantly and consistently
  • Write queries and complete data export requests to provide departments with clean, easy to use data sets of interest

In your first six months some projects you’ll work on include:

  • Collaborate with all departments to understand their data related requirements to develop solutions
  • Review current data infrastructure and data pipelines, create a plan for changes, confirm with all stakeholders, and implement new design
  • Build dashboards and reports to replace current spreadsheet manipulation-heavy data processes
  • Identify and implement opportunities to modernize Ossium’s data tools
  • Continuously improve Ossium systems and processes through critical analysis, coding, and utilizing databases and APIs
  • Transfer existing infrastructure and build all new systems in the cloud
  • Maintain full stack of data pipelines

This position has an annual salary range of $129,500 - $210,000 annually. Ossium Health takes a market-based approach to pay. The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on, but not limited to, job-related skills, experience, qualifications, and market conditions. This range may be modified in the future.

We offer a full slate of employee benefits including:

  • Competitive salaries
  • Stock options
  • 401(k) matching
  • Medical, dental and vision coverage
  • Generous paid time off + 11 company holidays
  • Employer paid life insurance and long term disability
