Staff FullStack Java Engineer- DevOps or Ops Focused

About Account Services: 

We are the Account Service team, building a key service within Okta. Our roadmap is exciting and fulfilling. We are addressing key customer usecases spanning across Workforce (WF), Customer Identity (CIAM), and business-to-business (B2B) space. Our customers are named brand global service providers with customers across the globe. 

We are looking for a Staff software engineer with considerable DevOps experience to influence and accelerate our team’s adoption of best practices while contributing to product development as a key member of our engineering team. Your track record of implementing state-of-the-art DevOps engineering, automation, and service ownership automation will be a multiplier to our small but growing team of talented engineers.

We are looking for a self-starter. You enjoy solving hard problems. You will own the roadmap - ideation, design and implementation of Service level objectives (SLO) and Service level indicators (SLI). You are a thought leader and a practitioner, bringing industry expertise. You will mentor, guide and instill service ownership tenets with the team and with your peers. You should have a deep understanding of distributed application service concepts, zeal for figuring stuff out, along with back-end development expertise. 

What You’ll Do

• Lead the engineering efforts of operations engineering, including scale, capacity planning, SLO/SLIs, monitoring and alerts
• Our service integrates with internal APIs and also Salesforce. You will bring your service integration expertise, architect a repeatable pipeline for integration testing - one that will allow us to validate (canary/chaos test) our service in a Production-like environment.
• You will analyze our current deployment pipeline, come up with efficiencies and improvements and lead the execution
• Drive the service ownership roadmap and harden our service with state-of-the-art observability and availability 
• Implement observability and availability metrics and dashboards
• Build good relationships with Core, Infra and SRE peers
• Thought leader of modern SRE and DevOps practices across our Realm
• Instill Operations engineering best practices as part of our day-to-day product development
• Set an example for clean, operational-ready and reliable code
• You are curious and patient - We work closely with our customers. You will guide our customer designs where needed

Your experience

• Significant experience as an SRE or DevOps practitioner
• You have experience building, operating, and troubleshooting complex applications using cloud infrastructure
• Exceptional engineering fundamentals - Specifically - DB CRUD, API integration, Security, Distributed computing, domain modeling and OOP.
• Significant experience with AWS. (GCP is  bonus) 
• ~5 years experience as Java backend or full stack engineer
• We have a good cross-section of tech stack - AWS, GitHub, Java, React, JavaScript, Hibernate, Spring Boot, SQL, Redis, ECS, Docker, Vagrant, Terraform, Maven, npm, Splunk, and Wavefront.
