Staff Engineer - Tools

The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Staff Software Engineering to join and lead our team. In this role, you will be responsible for leading the design, development, and implementation of software engineering tools which supports the software development lifecycle. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to understand their needs and requirements, and implement solutions that improve the efficiency, reliability, scalability, and overall quality of software and the software development processes.

Your role

• Lead the design and development of software engineering tools and systems.
• Own and Support developer tooling such as command-line interfaces, testing clients and debugging tools for languages such as C++, Java, Golang, Python & JavaScript.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand their needs and requirements.
• Develop and maintain technical design and architecture for software engineering tools.
• Ensure the integration of software engineering tools with existing systems and processes.
• Create simple proof of concept to determine feasibility, ROI, and effort.
• Develop and implement improvements to the current CI/CD flow as well as the software being built.
• Stay up-to-date with industry trends and advancements in software engineering CI/CD tooling and technology.
• Mentor and lead junior engineers on the team.

What You’ll Bring

• Must have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. Master’s degree in CS or a related field preferred
• At least 10 years of experience in software engineering, including 5+ years of experience as a software engineer in a tools engineering organization.
• Extensive experience in design, development, and implementation of software engineering tools for Enterprise Systems.
• Strong knowledge of software development methodologies, including Agile.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think creatively.
• Strong communication and leadership skills.
• Strong experience in two or more languages: C++, Python, GoLang, Java, Java Script
• Built complex, on-prem software and test frameworks
• Experience in hands-on debugging
• Experience working with toolchains
• Understanding of CI/CD workflows
• Knowledge of Software Development Life Cycle especially in areas of setting up environments, debugging, building and testing in an automated environment.
• Experience with distributed source control systems such git, and experience with hosted systems such as Github, Gerrit, Gitlabs
• Knowledge of build automation tools such Jenkins or CircleCI

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $158,400 and $316,800/year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
