About the Opportunity ✍️

We’re looking for a seasoned Data Engineer to join our core Data Engineering team. In this position, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the evolution of our data platform to leverage real-time analytics and drive new data-driven initiatives. You’ll collaborate closely with our talented data team and will have the opportunity to impact critical functions of the business, working cross-functionally with various teams including Engineering, Ops, Product, and Compliance.

As a Data Engineer at MoonPay, you'll go beyond simply building and maintaining ETL pipelines. We're seeking individuals with an aptitude for innovation and creativity, eager to design and build solutions that significantly enhance our ability to leverage data. What you will do…

• Provide strategic vision for evolving our data platform to enable real-time analytics and identify new data-driven initiatives.

• Develop both batch and real-time solutions and proofs of concepts to address complex business problems.

• Support enhancements to the data platform infrastructure, including hands-on involvement in DevOps engineering.

• Collaborate with MoonPay’s data team to build scalable, high-performance infrastructure for delivering actionable business insights from diverse data sources.

• Build frameworks and tools to empower our Data Analysts and Scientists, accelerating development speed.

• Implement and participate in practices (such as an on-call rotation) to ensure the continuous delivery and uptime of production services.

What you will need…

• Prior experience with productionising real-time analytics systems is a must.

• Advanced knowledge of Python and SQL.

• Extensive experience with object-oriented design and coding and testing patterns, including experience with engineering software platforms and data infrastructures.

• A solid understanding and hands-on experience with real-time and event-driven systems such as Kafka, Kafkaconnect, Redpanda, Pub/Sub.

• Hands-on experience with orchestration tools like Airflow.

• Experience with change-data-capture (CDC) tools like Debezium.

• Experience with Kubernetes, docker and deployment types.

• Good working knowledge of Terraform and Terragrunt for Infrastructure as Code (IaC)

• Working experience with distributed computing and Big Data technologies such as Spark, Dataflow, and Flink.

• Working experience with dimensional modeling and implementing data transformations through tooling like DBT.

• Experience with production level system design and implementation 

• Experience with cloud providers, such as GCP, AWS, or Azure (we are a GCP house)

• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.

• A strong desire to help and upskill your teammates, share your knowledge with them, and learn from them.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a diverse set of stakeholders.

• Prior experience or a strong interest in FinTech, crypto, or web3 preferred.
