Senior Software Engineer, Next-Gen Data Service

We’re hiring talented Senior Software Engineers to help us to build a new, highly anticipated, data centric service. MongoDB's evergrowing platform encompases many developer focused services such as MongoDB Atlas Database, Atlas Search, Atlas Data Federations, Atlas Application Services and more. The fully integrated platform enables developers to deploy fault-tolerant, secure, globally distributed, fully integrated, services quickly and reliably. The new service will very quickly become one of the cornerstone services of MongoDB flagship Developer Data Platform.

The team is a startup within the company. These roles are an opportunity to be founding members of the team building MongoDB’s next generation multi-tenant developer centric service. As founding members of the team, the Senior Engineers are expected to participate in providing technical direction, helping devise architecture, and implement core parts of the service.

The position is open to our “in office”, “flexible”, or fully remote working models.

Position Expectations/Role Responsibilities/What you’ll do...

• Work closely with research, product management, product engineering, product design, peers as well as other teams within the company to define the first version and future evolution of the service 
• Design, build and deliver core pieces of the service in collaboration with other vested parties
• Help shape architecture, development practices, and escalation policies as the teams and the  product grow.

Qualifications/Requirements/We’re looking for someone with…

• Strong background in database internals or building core components for data processing systems (including query execution, storage engines, autotuning and workload optimization) and distributed systems
• 5+ years experience of building database services, distributed systems, and/or foundational cloud services at scale
• Proven success in designing, writing, testing, debugging, performance tuning, possessing a strong grip on the foundational material of computer science and maintaining distributed and/or highly concurrent software systems in large, long-lived code bases
• Good verbal and written technical communication skills, desire to collaborate with colleagues, mentor fellow engineers and assume projects’ ownership and accountability
• Track record of identifying problems, implementing solutions and delivering complex projects in distributed systems or databases
• Strong sense of ownership, accountability and pride
