About the role:

At Modular, we’ve been building one of the most unique and advanced technology stacks to drive forward the state of AI infrastructure. We’re looking for a key technical leader to oversee the design, development, implementation, and optimization of our performance-related infrastructure. In this role you’ll work closely and collaborate with our engineering teams pushing the limits of performance with the MAX platform and the Mojo programming language.

LOCATION: This role is based out of North America. You can work out of one of our offices in Los Altos, CA or remotely from home.

What you will do:

  • Lead the design and architecture of performance-related infrastructure solutions.
  • Analyze system performance metrics and identify opportunities for infrastructure optimization.
  • Collaborate with our cloud and platform teams to forecast capacity requirements and plan for future scalability needs.
  • Empower our performance teams by implementing monitoring and alerting solutions to proactively identify and mitigate performance issues.
  • Lead incident response efforts related to performance incidents, including root cause analysis and resolution.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation related to performance infrastructure solutions, including architecture diagrams, deployment guides, and best practices.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment of performance-related initiatives with overall business objectives.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

What you bring to the table:

  • 5+ years of experience in performance engineering, infrastructure engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Strong understanding of networking, storage, compute, and database technologies.
  • Leadership experience, with the ability to lead and mentor a team of engineers.
  • Strongly identifies with our core company cultural values.

Helpful but not required:

  • Experience working with ONNXRuntime, PyTorch, TensorFlow, Nvidia TRT-LLM, or vLLM.
  • Some experience with and interest in Mojo, our AI programming language!

The estimated base salary range for this role to be performed in the US, regardless of the state, is $234,000.00 - $319,000.00 USD. 
Th
e salary for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of permissible, non-discriminatory job-related factors, which include but are not limited to education, training, work experience, business needs, or market demands. This range may be modified in the future. The total compensation for a candidate will also include annual target bonus, equity, and benefits, with equity making up a significant portion of your total compensation.
