About the Role

Our design team is 1 Product Designer, 2 Design Engineers, 2 Brand Designers, and 1 Head of Design. We’re all seasoned generalists with strong expertise in our given areas.

At Modern Treasury, Design Engineers solve complex Product Design problems with Engineering skills. This is a unique role with a mandate to support efforts around quality and craft, improve design systems and tools, and help launch 0-1 product concepts.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Critical Feature Development: Take a hands-on approach to writing clean, efficient production code for high-priority projects, significantly impacting our user experience.

• Design Leadership: Prototype new products, features, and interface experiments to drive discussions across product, design, and engineering.

• Systems Ownership: Build and steward our design system, used by a team of 70+ engineers. You will flex a systems-first mindset to deliver impact using Storybook or internally created tools.

• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with Engineers, our Frontend Working Group, and Designers. You display strong knowledge of well-structured technical documentation and are able to write solid documentation when needed.

• Team growth: Contribute to Design’s trajectory as an organization. We will be growing during your tenure– you will be a critical voice in who and how we hire and the projects we tackle.

Who we’re looking for

• Seasoned Technologist: With a solid +5 year track record developing web interfaces and design systems, your expertise spans HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, Figma, Storybook, and more. You’re excited when building excellent, user-centric products and have a portfolio of projects that illustrates this.

• Proactive Drive: You're intrinsically motivated, a self-starter driven to have an impact and leave things better than you found them. In your rapidly iterative and collaborative design process, you display top-notch written and verbal communication skills. Resourcefulness is second nature to you and you’re lit up when driving rapid positive impact.

• Excellent Design Eye: A solid portfolio demonstrating impeccable taste and proficiency in translating designs to front-end code while maintaining high standards of quality. You're passionate about designing streamlined solutions for complex systems and crafting tools for overlooked markets.

• Growth Mindset: You're inherently curious and introspective. You start with insightful questions and your dedication to seeking out and integrating feedback is unwavering, always prioritizing the finest design solution over personal pride.

• Optimistic Realism: Your decisions exude a balanced blend of vision and pragmatism. Balancing perfection and timeliness, you team up with partners to understand business goals and customer needs, ensuring that your efforts align with company priorities.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with motion and complex animation

• Experience building in an API-forward and/or SaaS-heavy context

• Experience with Typescript & GraphQL
