Microsoft’s Azure Data engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence. ​​Within Azure Data, the databases team builds and maintains Microsoft's operational Database systems. We store and manage data in a structured way to enable multitude of applications across various industries. We are on a journey to enable developer friendly, mission-critical, AI enabled operational Databases across relational, non-relational and OSS offerings(Open Source Software).​

The Azure Messaging organization is an open, fun, and diverse set of teams that build and operate services that enable customers to get the most out of their data. We connect on-premises and cloud-based applications using open protocols, build event-driven applications using fully managed publish-subscribe service, ingest, route and stream events for real-time processing. We enable customers to collect data from the physical world, and operationalize insights derived from that data to create better business outcomes. We provide a reliable platform that spans from the edge to the cloud that customers use to build scalable solutions, across managing industrial equipment used in manufacturing, tracking valuable assets in healthcare, and monitoring office building usage.

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to be part of the exciting journey to redefine and help drive the future of our Messaging Platform. You will work with a passionate and supportive team of engineers and program managers to deliver large-scale, distributed, multi-tenant services, while tackling intrinsically hard scaling and availability problems. You will lead critical work streams from scoping to delivery to operations. You will work with partners to understand critical requirements, shape up our architectural recommendations, and find innovative solutions, while building highly scalable and reliable services.

Required/Minimum Qualifications 

• ​​Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, .Net C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python  
  • OR equivalent experience.​  
    
    

Other Requirements 

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background

Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. 

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, Rust, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python 
  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, Rust, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python   
    • OR equivalent experience.  
• Experience with multi-threaded/async programming and a passion for distributed systems and large-scale storage.     
• Prior experience and/or subject matter expertise in service reliability, Network Security, Encryption, Authentication, SFTP, SSH or REST.     
• Experience in software engineering practices, coding and solid foundation in data structures, algorithms with testing, debugging and analytical skills.    
• A dedicated engineer, who is disciplined about reliability, performance and architecture.  

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 - $218,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,800 - $238,600 per year.

• Drive end to end accountability on architecture, design, implementation, deploy, measure and iterate with focus on distributed systems programming
• Drive architecture parameters like Performance, Security, Reliability, Scalability and Configurability
