Microsoft Azure Storage team is building Microsoft’s cloud storage solution - which is a massively scalable, highly distributed, ubiquitously accessible storage system, designed to scale out and serve the entire world. The Azure Storage team delivers Virtual Disks, File Systems and Object Storage for IaaS, containers, serverless, BareMetal, and more.

As a Senior Software Engineer in Azure Storage Control plane team, you will design and implement protocols and features for ensuring availability, consistency, and durability of exabytes of data across thousands of nodes. We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer with a track record of top-notch design and code development skills. This position will play a key role in designing and building Storage Control Plane, while delivering continued improvements as well as path breaking features at high quality. This opportunity will all you to work on the latest server technologies and highly distributed systems, with a focus on reliability, scalability, performance, consistency and debuggability.
As a senior member of the team you will additionally be responsible and have the opportunity to influence the direction this team takes towards building a solid technical team as well as our team's culture.

Required Qualifications: 

 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 
    • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience
  • Experience in designing and building large scale distributed systems. 
  • Experience in cloud backend development and operation, including performance, reliability, resilience, and scale-out.
  • Experience with multi-threaded programming.
  • A foundation in data structures and algorithms with testing, debugging, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot/debug and resolve complex production service issues at scale and the ability to plan, schedule and deliver quality software.
  • Efficient communication and collaboration skills.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 - $218,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,800 - $238,600 per year.
