Senior Software Engineer

The Microsoft Search, Assistant, and Intelligence (MSAI) team is responsible for developing and delivering innovative solutions for Microsoft 365 Copilot. We work on integrating intelligence and natural language capabilities into all the Microsoft 365 apps. Microsoft 365 Chat combs across your entire universe of data at work, including emails, meetings, chats, documents and more, plus the web. Like an assistant, it has a deep understanding of you, your job, your priorities and your organization. It goes far beyond simple questions and answers to give you a head start on some of your most complex or tedious tasks — whether that’s writing a strategy document, booking a business trip, or catching up on emails.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will have the opportunity to impact millions of enterprise users and help them be more productive and efficient by building the next set of intelligence features around search & recommendations in Microsoft 365 Copilot. You will be empowered to drive innovation by producing new and exciting ideas to creatively solve issues, as well as actively look for opportunities to improve product quality.

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, Python
• OR equivalent experience
• Demonstrated C# coding skills building enterprise grade Internet scale web and backend API services.
• 2+ years demonstrated experience working on Cloud Services such as Azure, AWS or similar environments.
• 2+ years demonstrated technical, cross group collaboration experience and proficient communication skills.
  
• 8+ years software development experience (online services preferred) and experience in testing, deploying and supporting large scale services on Azure, AWS or similar environments.
• Experience working with Search Systems/Domain.
• Ability to understand unfamiliar code bases, and debug server-side, multi-threaded, and highly scalable application.
• Passion for learning and teaching.
• Experience leading/delivering projects that span multiple engineering teams.
• Experience working in Agile environments.
• Experience with test-driven development.
• Experience building and operating high scale services.

• Design, develop and operate large scale, efficient and reliable cloud services and leverage Large Language Models (LLMs) to define the next set of experiences in Microsoft 365 Copilot and substantially improve existing ones.

• Participate in an on-call rotation (typically 24/7 for one week every 6-8 weeks) acting as Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) to monitor production systems for degradation, downtime, or interruptions, alerting stakeholders about status and taking appropriate actions to restore system/product/service.
• Investigate and resolve Customer Reported Incidents, continually looking for ways to minimize or eliminate future incidents and improve customer experiences.
