Principal Software Engineer

Microsoft Azure is building the fastest cloud network in the world. We are seeking candidates who live and breathe systems software development, love working closely with hardware to build network systems software and services, taking things from idea to production. The Azure Host Networking team is where the rubber meets the road for Software-Defined Networking (SDN) – we create the host data path that allows SDN controllers to perform arbitrary packet manipulations and virtualization at very high speed.

As a Principal Software Engineer, you'll build the world’s fastest public cloud and make a difference to millions of people across the planet. We are seeking an experienced and visionary Principal Software Engineer to lead our fundamentals efforts to ensure the reliability, performance, and scalability of our products across various platforms. You will provide technical leadership and guidance to the larger fundamentals team. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and execute the fundamentals strategy. You will drive innovation and best practices in fundamentals design, implementation, and testing. You will also mentor and coach team members to enhance their technical skills.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR equivalent experience.
• Experience with performance optimization of systems software AND server-class network hardware.
• Demonstrated ability to work with internal and external partners.
