Principal Software Engineer

We are looking to hire a Principal Software Engineer to support and augment the Azure Operator Nexus team of cloud engineers to ensure adherence to integral security practices in developing and integrating on-premises hybrid edge cloud solutions in trusted and untrusted environments to support the modernization of 5G wireless technology network functions.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

            o OR equivalent experience.

• 2 years of experience with Microsoft Azure core services (Fabric, Computing, Storage).
• 4 years of experience with Cybersecurity (Application Security, Security Architecture, Risk Assessment & Audit).

 Other Requirements:  

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:  

• Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. 

Additional or Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience partnering with cross-functional teams to deliver widely impactful security initiatives.
• Experience in building, shipping, securing, and operating reliable, distributed systems software.
• Ability to learn and grasp concepts quickly. 
• Knowledge and experience working with OWASP (Open Web Application Security Project), static/dynamic analysis, and standard security tools.
• Knowledge of operating systems / networking.
• Knowledge of engineering systems and development of pipelines.
• Proficiency in one of the following areas: 
• Experience with NFVi (Network functions virtualization infrastructure) and SDN (Software Defined Networking). 
• Experience with containers and Azure Kubernetes Service. 
• Experience architecting secure application platforms. 
• Familiar with system hardening, both STIG (Security Technical Implementation Guide) and CIS (Center for Internet Security) Benchmarks.

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.

In this role, you will build and develop the software stack to expand our telecom product presence and provide a carrier-grade cloud with speed, scale, quality, and security.  You will use your knowledge to contribute to the protection of our technological domain areas (Azure core services) Arc, Azure Kubernetes Services, Monitoring, Engineering Systems. 

You will collaborate with several teams across Azure Core, Azure Edge, Platform, and Defender to lead the transition of the mobile network to an open, disaggregated and software-based model leveraging Azure for Operators as the platform of choice. 

As a Security focused Principal Software Engineer, you will contribute to and be responsible for: 

• Providing strategic product vision to advance industry products.  
• Owning and performing application security vulnerability management. 
• Participating in and support application security reviews and threat modeling, including code review and dynamic testing. 
• Supporting and consulting with product and development teams around application security.
• Assisting in the development or extension of automated security testing to validate that secure coding best practices are enforced. 
• Mentoring fellow engineers to elevate skill sets and providing proficient guidance in creating a secure product. 
• Socializing security objectives with internal development and partner teams.
