Job Description

Job Summary:
Dotdash Meredith is seeking a dynamic individual to work full-time as a technical lead with PHP/Wordpress expertise. This is an experienced professional position for someone with 7+ years of experience with an opportunity to be exposed to a dynamic, enterprise computing environment. The qualified candidate should have strong web development, technical troubleshooting and excellent non-technical communication skills, both in written and oral formats.
As a Technical lead, you will play a critical role in leading the development and implementation of projects. You will be responsible for overseeing the entire lifecycle of application development projects, from conceptualization to deployment, and ensuring that they meet the highest standards of quality, performance, and security. You will collaborate with the IT Service Desk, Human Resources, Enterprise Infrastructure, Engineering, PMO, and other teams to support critical platforms, workflows, and projects.

Stakeholder Interaction: Collaborate with stakeholders and other business and technical teams to understand their business requirements, provide technical insights, and offer recommendations for the solutions. Communicate project progress, milestones, and deliverables effectively.

Responsibilities:
Administration/Support:
● Create, edit, and manage templates, website content, including text, images, videos, and other multimedia elements to ensure it remains up-to-date, relevant, and engaging for the target audience.
● Regularly update and patch PHP and Wordpress core software, themes, libraries and plugins to safeguard the website against security vulnerabilities and ensure optimal performance.
● Upgrade/migrate php and wordpress websites to current operating system and software patches.
● Assist with website migration tasks, bug remediation and problem resolution.
● Maintain the visual integrity of the website by overseeing the design and aesthetics, including layout, color schemes, themes, typography, and user interface elements, to enhance user experience and brand consistency.
Development:
● Project Leadership: Take a lead role in planning, coordinating, and executing WordPress projects. Work closely with project managers, designers, and other developers to define project requirements, timelines, and deliverables
● Technical Leadership: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior developers. Stay updated on the latest WordPress trends, technologies, and best practices, and share knowledge with the team.
● Custom Development: Develop, support and maintain custom WordPress themes, plugins, and solutions tailored to
the specific needs. Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code that adheres to WordPress coding standards.
● Follow full software development lifecycle for custom php software and Wordpress plugins.
● Work with design and content teams to translate wireframes into functional and visually appealing web pages.
● Implement security and data protection capabilities.
● Engage in continuous improvement and adoption of new features, and functionality.
● Experience working in an Agile environment and familiar with Atlassian Bitbucket and or other codebase repository management solutions.
● Continuous Improvement: Participate in code reviews, retrospectives, and knowledge-sharing sessions to identify areas for improvement and implement enhancements in development processes and methodologies.

Required Skills & Education:
● Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent preferred, or equivalent technical work
● Overall 8+ years experience with minimum 5 years of PHP development and experience in administering Wordpress sites, developing custom Wordpress plugins and front-end, and back-end development.
● Proficient in web markup languages, including HTML5, and CSS3
● Experience with Python programming language and its libraries/frameworks
● Experience with Postgres or MySQL, SASS, jQuery, Bootstrap and JavaScript are a plus.
● Strong web development knowledge from ideation to deployment
● Ability to create custom Wordpress themes.
● Proficient in Wordpress security
● Experience using APIs for workflows and tasks automation.
● Experience working with AWS services EC2, S3, RDS, Cloudwatch, VPC, IAM and Route53 etc.
● AWS and/or GCP certifications are a plus

Good to Have:
● Experience with NodeJS, Vue.js, React or similar frameworks and libraries, Gulp / Grunt automation tool and docker.
● Contributions to the WordPress community (e.g., plugins, themes, forums, WordCamps).
