Position Summary:

We are seeking  a passionate and results-oriented senior leader to join our team to build data foundations and tools to craft the future. The candidate will spearhead our Data engineering service offerings under Data, Analytics, and AI Enterprise Services department. The candidate should possess substantial technical expertise in constructing data engineering and analytics platforms from scratch, both in cloud and on-premises environments.

This individual should be well-versed in modern practices related to Data, Cloud, Advanced Analytics, and Data Engineering. The candidate will design and implement scalable, extensible, and highly available data pipelines on large volume data sets, that will enable actionable insights, strategy and ML workloads across enterprise. The ideal candidate will have a track record of successfully implementing and managing large-scale global initiatives, as well as leading global teams. Additionally, they should be adept at driving technology imperatives such as Standardization, Cost Optimization, and Strategic Alignment.

Responsibilities:

Enterprise Data Engineering Delivery:

Oversee the design, development, and management of scalable and reliable data engineering solutions that support data products deployment for use in advanced analytics, data science, and AI initiatives. Ensure platforms are capable of handling complex data workflows and high-volume data processing. Guide the technical vision and strategy for an accurate, scalable, usable, and reliable data platform and infrastructure.

Service Leadership:

Manage a team of service leads, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence aligned to McKesson’s ICARE and ILEAD values. Provide mentorship and guidance to team members to ensure professional development and growth. Hire and retain top data engineering talent, set performance expectations, conduct regular assessments, and foster a collaborative and innovative work environment.

Strategic Leadership in Data Engineering:

Contribute to development of comprehensive enterprise data strategy that aligns with McKesson’s business objectives, emphasizing the strategic use of data as a key asset in driving business outcomes.  Lead engineering practices and standards workstream.

Innovation in Data Technologies and Practices:

Lead the adoption of cutting-edge data technologies and methodologies to enhance data accessibility, quality, and insights. This also involves selecting appropriate technologies, tools, and platforms to ensure efficient data flow, data integration, and data governance.  Lead PoC studies to bring and operationalize new features and capabilities.

Cross-Functional Collaboration and Integration:

Foster strong collaboration with business units, IT, and analytics teams to ensure data engineering practices meet evolving business needs. Develop and delivery data solutions backed by strong cross functional collaboration.

Governance, Compliance, and Data Security:

Implement engineering solutions to support robust data governance policies and practices to ensure data quality, compliance with global data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA), and the security of sensitive and proprietary information. Ensure quality of enterprise data assets is maintained and enhanced by implementation of modern, automated processes.

Vendor and Stakeholder Management:

Manage relationships with technology vendors and partners to ensure the company has access to the best tools and services.

Minimum Requirements

Typically requires 13+ years of professional experience and 6+ years of diversified leadership, planning, communication, organization, and people motivation skills (or equivalent experience).

Critical Skills

  • 12+ years of experience in a technology role; proven experience in a leadership role, preferably in a large, complex organization.

  • 8+ years Data Engineering, Emerging Technology, and Platform Design experience

  • 4+ years Leading large data / technical teams – Data Engineering, Solution Architects, and Business Intelligence Engineers, encouraging a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

  • Hands-on experience building and delivering Enterprise Data Solutions

  • Extensive market knowledge and experience with cutting edge Data, Analytics, Data Science, ML and AI technologies

  • Extensive professional experience with ETL, BI & Data Analytics

  • Extensive professional experience with Big Data systems, data pipelines and data processing

  • Deep expertise in Data Architecture, Data Modeling, and task estimations.

  • Familiarity with data privacy standards, methodologies, and best practices

  • Practical hands-on experience with data technologies and Cloud Platform like Hadoop, Hive, Redshift, Big Query, Snowflake, Databricks, GCP and Azure.

  • Expertise in Python, Unix Shell scripting and Dependency driven job schedulers.

  • Expertise in Data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau and Looker is a plus

  • Ability to understand API Specs, identify relevant API calls, extract data and implement data pipelines & SQL friendly data structures.

Additional Skills

  • Deep understanding of modern data technologies, data architecture principles, and AI/machine learning applications.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence with technical teams, business leaders, and external partners.

  • Strategic thinker with a strong analytical mindset and problem-solving abilities.

  • Proven track record of overseeing a portfolio of multiple projects and experience leading large scale global transformation program at a company with global footprint.

  • Strong change manager. Comfortable with change, especially that which arises through transformation. Able to lead a team effectively through times of change.

  • Extensive experience with data engineering technologies, business intelligence tools, designing, reporting and delivering analytic solutions, data management and warehousing, and the strategic use of information

  • Positive and flexible attitude to enable adjusting to different needs in an ever-changing environment

  • Experience with data in the drug supply chain and commercial domain within healthcare, pharma is a plus

  • Strong leadership, organizational and interpersonal skills; comfortable managing trade-offs

  • Ability to lead others without direct authority

  • Highly influential and ability to educate stakeholders on the role of data and its purpose in the business

  • Teams up and collaborates for speed, agility, delivery excellence and innovation

  • Strong negotiation and decision-making skills

Education:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Data Science, Information Technology, or a related field OR equivalent experience

This is determined by several factors, including performance, experience and skills, equity, regular job market evaluations, and geographical markets. In addition to base pay, other compensation, such as an annual bonus or long-term incentive opportunities may be offered. 

Our Base Pay Range for this position

$191,200 - $318,600
