Description

This role will be in-office (Prague) on a hybrid schedule — Hybrid Team Members will be expected to work in the office 3 days per week .

At Lyft, our mission is to improve people’s lives with the world’s best transportation. To do this, we start with our own community by creating an open, inclusive, and diverse organization. Lyft is a global ecosystem of dynamic workplaces, and our Czech location is no different. We have an ambitious goal to strengthen our international presence by growing a life-changing product, and your efforts will play an essential role in our collective success.

Lyft’s Infrastructure engineers are responsible for building the systems and tools that make our teams productive and the technology stack that powers the applications our customers use every day. As an engineer on our team, there’s no limit to the impact you can have on the business. All of us are responsible for deploying and supporting their own services, and because of this they look to us for advice, guidance, and stability. We anticipate Lyft’s driver, passenger, and engineering growth, and we build systems that support it. We invest heavily in infrastructure because we know that engineers are happiest when they’re shipping code quickly and reliably.

We believe in picking the right tools for the job, whether that means evaluating third party vendors or building something in-house. We aren’t dogmatic about technologies and we adapt our systems based on the needs of the organization. Currently you’ll find us writing Python and Go, and integrating our services with a suite of Amazon Web Services, Jenkins, Terraform, and Kubernetes just to name a few.

* Currently, we are only considering candidates for remote work from locations only within the territory of Czechia

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, deploy, monitor, operate and maintain existing or new elements of our systems infrastructure
  • Help define the team’s roadmap and architecture based on technology and business needs
  • Write well-crafted, well-tested, readable, maintainable code/scripts and configurations
  • Have a good grasp and ability to explain the various trade offs made in decisions
  • Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality and distribute knowledge
  • Lead projects from idea to positive execution
  • Analyze our internal systems and processes and locate areas for improvement/automation
  • Incorporate considerations for business context, failure modes, monitoring, compliance, and security in your work
  • Proactively participate in resolving ongoing incidents
  • Unblock, support, effectively communicate, and obtain buy-in across teams to achieve results
  • Share your knowledge by giving brown bags, tech talks, and evangelizing appropriate tech and engineering best practices

Experience:

  • 5+ years of software engineering/production infrastructure industry experience
  • Experience designing, debugging and running fault-tolerant, highly available, large-scale distributed systems
  • Experience working with public cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Microsoft Azure, etc.)
  • Experience with operating Kubernetes clusters and working with container technologies (e.g. Docker, cri-o, etc) at scale.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages to use APIs to automate manual processes
  • Experience with common CI tools (Jenkins, Buildkite, CircleCI, TeamCity), and proficiency in at least one of those tools
  • Experience working with databases, relational or NoSQL
  • Experience operating and debugging Linux systems in production
  • Experience leading projects from end to end
  • Take pride in reducing technical debt; you pay attention to small details, and you value keeping code/configuration clean and maintainable
  • Ability to successfully pass a coding challenge interview focused on Computer Science fundamentals (data structures and algorithms)
  • Fluency in spoken and written English

Benefits:

  • Public Transportation allowance
  • Mental health benefits
  • Family building benefits
  • 25 vacation days annually
  • 18 weeks of paid parental leave. Biological, adoptive, and foster parents are all eligible

This role will be in-office on a hybrid schedule if an established Lyft Location is available to the region — Hybrid Team Members will be expected to work in the office 3 days per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Additionally, hybrid roles have the flexibility to work from anywhere for up to 4 weeks per year.
