Product Management Intern (Summer 2024)

San Francisco, CA
Machine Learning
Description
Seeking an ambitious product management intern to help pioneer software in biology.

The convergence of laboratory automation, high-throughput assays, and machine learning is moving the medium of biological discovery to silicon. At LatchBio, we are building the ubiquitous cloud SaaS platform to store, visualize and analyze data from biological experiments.

What’s the Product?

We are 22 engineers in San Francisco solving the data bottleneck in biology:

- Data in biotech has increased 10,000x over the past 10 years
- AI in biopharma will 20x in 7 years. $200m to $4b, 54% CAGR.
- We build ubiquitous software, storage, pipelines, & machine learning for all of biology.

Our mission is to build and disseminate the data infrastructure platform of the biocomputing revolution. Today, this is a cloud platform for biotechs to upload, store, analyze, and visualize biological data.

Traction

Spun out of UC Berkeley in 2021, we spent 9 months on customer discovery, 12 months building the product, 9 months readying our go-to-market, and the last 3 months beginning to scale. We have achieved:

- 50+ new biotech companies onboarded in the past 12 months
- $28m Series A from Lux Capital, Coatue, and General Catalyst

Outcomes we deliver

- 50% cost savings on cloud (1)
- 80% reduced time-to-insight for biotechs (2)
- 300% increase in validated drug targets in a biotechs data pipeline (3)
- 2x faster drug target screening (4)
- 2-5 FTE hires saved

Who are you?

What you will do

- Market research to identify trends, competitors, and potential opportunities for product improvement.
- Conduct user testing and feedback collection to iterate and improve product functionality and usability.
- Analyze user data to identify pain points and areas for improvement in the user experience.
- Create user journey maps.
- Create and maintain documentation for the platform, including user guides, release notes, and technical specifications.
- Support the product manager and designer in various tasks and projects as needed, gaining hands-on experience in product management practices and methodologies.

What you need to succeed

- Previous internship experience in a product, engineering, or other relevant role
- Recently completed or currently pursuing a relevant degree
- Passion for innovation in biology
- Ruthless analytical skills
- Product knowledge → understanding Latch's features, services, benefits, and how they meet the needs of a wide variety of scientific aims that biotech clients may have.
- User obsession → ability to empathize with biologists and bioinformaticians and turn those insights into product decisions
- Ability to work Monday through Saturday in-person in San Francisco.

This role is NOT a good fit for you if you:
- Have a business strategy background but no previous software engineering, bioinformatics, or wet lab biology experience.
- Are generally interested in product management but don’t find the problem space of data challenges in biology genuinely interesting.
- Prefer to stay high-level and aren’t excited about going into the weeds of customer science and bioinformatics workflows.
