About This Role 

As a Principal Frontend Engineer, you will bear primary responsibility for making sure we're making the best technical trade-offs in our product. You will own the roadmap for our frontend technologies as well as the roadmap for paying down our technical debt. We will lean heavily on your technical expertise from the discovery and project planning phases through delivery.

What You Will Be Doing 

• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand user needs and define features for different scenarios.
• Design and implement scalable and efficient React and React Native client applications for seamless text messaging communication between businesses and consumers.
• Lead the development and maintenance of the frontend technology roadmap, including strategies for addressing technical debt.
• Provide technical expertise and guidance throughout the discovery, planning, and delivery phases of projects.
• Foster a results-oriented culture by setting shared goals and visions within the team.
• Take ownership of the frontend development process, fostering accountability and collaboration among team members.
• Work closely with UX and Product teams to create delightful user experiences, balancing micro-interactions in modern UI designs.
• Stay passionate about user experience and advocate for user-centric design principles within the team.
• Identify and implement best practices to enhance the performance, reliability, and maintainability of frontend applications.

Skills & Qualifications 

• 8+ years frontend development experience
• 3+ years working on a SAAS product as a frontend engineer, including experience integrating with a micro-services backend
• Deep understanding of the frontend ecosystem (JavaScript, CSS / SASS, HTML, the DOM)
• Mastery of React and some of its more popular accompanying libraries
• Expertise and passion around writing different types of frontend tests, including end-to-end tests (e.g. Cypress )
• Experience releasing closed-source JavaScript libraries via npm, github
• React Native (mobile) development experience is strongly preferred.
• Proven technical leadership abilities
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Eager to learn and grow, while helping other teammates do the same
• Passionate about mentoring and developing less experienced team members
