Primary Responsibilities
- Works as part of the engineering leadership team to establish technical deliverables for team members, and to track progress toward those deliverables.
- Coordinates with other managers to ensure alignment of effort, coverage for required work, and clarity of requirements
- Works with team members on coaching & development opportunities, technical mentorship, role competence.
- Contributes to software development when needed, as a developer, code reviewer, and assisting in escalations
- Ensures team members understand process requirements, and implements measurement systems to track accountability
Skills / Knowledge / Experience
- Familiar with implementing measurable goals for individual contributors, supporting required team-wide objectives
- Familiar with leading SCRUM/Agile, Kanban, Waterfall or other methodologies, including familiarity with planning, managing, and delivering results in accordance with the methodology.
- Familiar with technical coaching, helping team members solve technical problems with hands-on intervention
- Familiar with interviewing, hiring, onboarding and training new employees
- P3 Software engineer technical competencies:
Required:
- Previous related experience (5+ years) in commercial software development capacity
- Extensive experience in software development using C/C++ for Linux
- Visual Studio
- Linux API's, Shell, Perl
- Solid understanding of networking
- General knowledge of Disk Structure, Partitions and File Systems
Desired:
- Hyper-V / VMware
- Linux/Windows/Win32 API’s
- Go, Python, SQL
- SMB/Samba, Docker, Apache
- SQLite, PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server, MySQL
- Jira, Confluence, Jenkins, GIT
Communication and Leadership:
- Ability to communicate vertically - can interact at all levels of management communications
- Ability to convey technical concepts and training to technical team members
- Ability to communicate status of development activities vertically and horizontally
- Skilled at synthesizing business-oriented or other non-technical directives into actionable plans for engineering
- Ability to efficiently communicate measurable outcomes across the organization with ease
- Effective interviewing and talent selection skills
