JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for overseeing outside vendors for tooling portfolio sustaining Life Cycle Management for the plastic and silicone injection molds for the disposable medical device products.   Collaborate with molding suppliers to manage production tooling, tooling system maintenance, and spares management (consumption, refreshment, and new spares), to assure uninterrupted supply chain.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Maintain a current tooling portfolio including tooling descriptions, locations, service life, condition, spares consumption rate and on hand spares availability.
• Publish Weekly Tooling/Mold System Status Tracking Report for the mold system conditions any risks associated with the process, spare parts, and maintenance schedule from Total Predictive Maintenance perspective.
• Communicate and assure the NP Medical Mold Maintenance Requirements are implemented/followed by the molding suppliers.
• Creation of tool maintenance plan and spare parts inventory management plan.  Manage Tooling Predictive Preventive Maintenance Program
• Provide inputs into NP Medical’s tooling portfolio for the mold maintenance and spares spend annual budget and the capital planning process supporting Tooling System (Mold, Hot Runner System (Thermoplastic), Cold Deck (for Silicone), Controllers, Mold End Of Arm Tooling, and all secondary equipment.
• Be familiar with all aspects of molded plastic and molded silicone parts and be knowledgeable in troubleshooting mold issues and hot runner and cold deck issues.
• Stay abreast of the latest molding tooling and Hot Runner technology and techniques to provide input and approval of designs that are competitive and cost effective.
• Working knowledge of the design and operation of multi-cavity hot manifold/hot to cold/cold runners tools
• Working knowledge of thermal & power control and properties of hot manifold technologies
• Understanding of Mold vs process and process vs mold cause and effects to develop effective root cause analysis and corrective actions with suppliers.
• Fundamental knowledge of injection molding process development (Master molder certification preferred)
• Collaborate with vendors to develop plans for tooling construction, molding process development and validation that support business objectives and oversee the effective execution of these plans
• Development of quotation criteria and Request for Quote documents - Work under the direction of the LTPE in order to develop quotations and schedules for development programs of tools
• Understanding of tool components steel selection and properties such as H13, 420SS, etc., along with hardness on the Rockwell scale
• Review of preliminary tool designs to ensure compliance with Customer and/or Jabil Healthcare tooling standards, Part drawing requirements, and Manufacturing volume requirements
• Coordinates and/or participates in risk assessments associated with tooling design, molding process development and EOAT design and application
• Review and approval of final tool designs
• Oversee the implementation of product related engineering change orders
• Interface with Quality, Design, and Manufacturing Engineers to review processes, determine validation requirements, and coordinate the validation
• Write validation protocols and reports as required
• Utilize advanced statistical tools to determine sampling plans and to analyze process capability and FAI data associated with validation activities.
• Direct vendors in the execution of process validations, gage R&Rs, IQs, OQs, and PQs as required
• Manage Molding Samples from vendor
• Coordinate and/or perform testing relating to the molding process validations
• Works with suppliers and internal NP Medical stakeholders in the resolution of quality problems associated with molding process validations
• Effectively communicate regular project updates to project team, relevant departments, stakeholders, and senior leadership as needed.
• Develop relationships with key suppliers to position the company for best value delivery
• Develop and maintain cost estimating guides for tools and ancillary equipment, process validations, and component piece part costs.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering OR equivalent education and training.
• Plus 5+ years of experience in Class 2 medical device development, cGMP validation engineering, or molding sustaining engineering
