Sr. DevOps Engineer

What You'll Do:

HG Insights is looking for a talented DevOps Engineer to work with our engineering organization reporting to the VP of Engineering. This position will be a key contributor working on and supporting application and infrastructure development of critical importance to the business using technologies such: CI/CD, Terraform, Kubernetes, Docker, and AWS. What You'll Be Responsible For:

• DevOps Practitioner: Work with a team of talented Software and Infrastructure Engineers that share a DevOps mindset
• Orchestration: Provision containerized applications in Kubernetes clusters on AWS cloud infrastructure using Terraform and AWS SDKs
• Observability: Centralize all logs and metrics and build dashboards and tooling to give engineering teams the insight they need
• Developer Relations: Act as a consultant to engineering teams to enable them to build our products and expand them consistently and securely
• Cloud Architecture: Use the best technologies to solve our expanding list of challenges without falling for the lure of the newest shiny object
• Identity: Follow identity-driven DevOps practices with an emphasis on AWS IAM, SSO, and role-based access control paradigms
• Security: Firmly push back against shortcuts and bad security practices
• Outlook: You are comfortable digging into other people’s source code in search of the root cause of a problem and you automate all the things
• Attitude: Self-starter, you don’t need to be told what to do, you go do it
• You will solve problems around the automation of data pipelines and data quality
• Improve monitoring tools and disaster and recovery procedures
• Participate in our on-call rotation, investigate and resolve production problems
• Strong desire to keep improving and learning new technologies

What You’ll Need:

This is a senior role. AWS, automation scripting, Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, and Docker experience is a must.

• Strong programming skills, including UNIX shell scripting, SQL, and Ruby/Python/etc.
• A proven history of being able to automate complex tasks
• Mastery of configuration management tooling, such as Puppet, Chef or Ansible
• Mastery of Infrastructure as Code tooling and practices, such as Terraform
• Deep understanding of container orchestration, including Kubernetes and Docker
• Experience administering and troubleshooting relational databases.
• Experience with various AWS technologies, including services like IAM, RDS, S3, EC2, EMR, Lambdas, etc.
• Experience with continuous integration and deployment methodologies and tools such as Github Actions, CodeShip, Jenkins, etc
• Experience with backup/migration systems.
• Experience with Performance and Monitoring tools like NewRelic
• Team player, you’ll get the job done that the team needs
• Smart, you can think with the best and aren’t afraid to learn
• BS/MS in Engineering, Computer Science, or other related fields. Or on-the-job

Nice to Haves:

• Experience with managing small-scale projects. You can organize and lead processes, ceremonies, and tools to do so (e.g., planning sessions, standups, task tracking boards, risk plans.)
• Programming or operational experience with Java or Elixir/Erlang a plus
• Experience with infrastructure supporting big-data: Hadoop, Spark, Data Warehouses, Elasticsearch, Kafka
• Experience administering Postgres databases
• Experience with Serverless environments such as AWS Lambdas
• Security expertise around identity and secrets management
