About the Role: 

As Director of Security Engineering, you will be responsible for the strategic planning, design, execution, and operational excellence of enterprise-wide security engineering efforts. Security engineering at Illumio is responsible for all technical aspects of securing the corporate and production environments. You will provide leadership, mentorship, and technical expertise to your teams, as well as work cross-functionally to ensure you are enabling the business to succeed. This role reports to the VP of Information Security. 

What You Will Accomplish: 

• Lead and manage the security architecture, security operations, detection engineering, and vulnerability management functions 

• Build and implement a comprehensive strategy to protect Illumio’s information and technology assets using the right balance of people, practices, and technology 

• Implement a program of measuring and improving the effectiveness of the security engineering program 

• Provide guidance and subject-matter expertise to business partners 

• Work cross-functionally to achieve the company’s security objectives 

• Communicate to senior management on company security posture 

• Build, deploy, and automate security solutions to support our defense-in-depth strategy, using a mixture of commercial, open-source, and in-house tools 

• Build and maintain vendor relationships in support of security engineering and the overall security program 

• Be our own customer by using Illumio’s products to secure our systems, as well as providing input and feedback to the product teams 

• Continually improve the effectiveness of our tools and practices, and implement new approaches to address the changing threat landscape 

• Perform other activities in support of the Information Security team’s charter 

• Participate in weekly on-call rotation

What You Will Bring: 

• 7+ years of experience in security engineering or an adjacent field 

• 4+ years of experience leading security teams 

• Experience securing common SaaS and IaaS platforms 

• Experience securing vCenter, Windows, macOS, and Linux 

• Scripting and automation skills, for example in python or bash  

• A data-driven, analytical mindset 

• The ability to express yourself clearly when communicating

Pay Range:

$254,000 USD - $305,000 USD

The pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, location, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, or applicable laws.
