Director, Engineering - Software Engineering Insights

About the role

As Director of Engineering at Harness, you'll lead a team pivotal to its success, focusing on fostering growth and enabling a multi geo team to innovate and deliver both open source and enterprise-grade features. Your role involves close collaboration with Product Management, your team, and peers to ensure top-notch quality and execution in delivery.

• Build and retain a growth-minded Enterprise SaaS organization: you know what it takes to both scale and sustain high-performing teams
• Vision & Direction: You will set the charter for your organization and understand how to deliver value to customers
• Managerial and interpersonal leadership: You will effectively communicate and collaborate with all areas of engineering and interact and work with engineers at all levels
• Influence: build and maintain strong relationships. Align your team and stakeholders to what’s best for Harness
• Deep understanding of software engineering and architecture - you will lead with a developer mindset from your past experience, while remaining focused on leadership excellence
• Exercise world class cross functional leadership with all Harness orgs
• Use your past expertise in delivering products in software lifecycle/delivery space - CI/CD
• Track record of delivery in rapidly changing, highly collaborative, multi-site, multi-stakeholder environments
• Expertise in developing enterprise Java apps on Linux
• prior experience on running these apps in a large scale SaaS platforms

About you

• 8-10 experience as a technical lead developing Java apps for SaaS at scale, prior startup experience is a preferred
• A seasoned technology leader with experience in a growth-minded Enterprise SaaS organization: you know what it takes to both scale and sustain high-performing teams. 
• Vision & Direction: You have experience leading an organization and understand how to deliver value to the customers
• A problem solver, able to balance competing priorities, strong process orientation, and ability to manage through complexity and rapid change
• Excellent managerial skills and interpersonal skills: You can effectively communicate and collaborate with all areas of engineering and interact and work with engineers at all levels
• Influence: You build strong relationships through your expertise and align your team and stakeholders to what’s best for Harness
• Deep understanding of software engineering and architecture - you’ve been a developer in the past but are focused on leadership now
• Experience partnering with cross-functional leaders across a globally distributed organization and exercising sound judgment
• Experience delivering products in software lifecycle/delivery space - CI/CD
• Track record of delivery in rapidly changing, highly collaborative, multi-site, multi-stakeholder environments
• You are a hands-on leader with a "can do" attitude and a bias for action; gets it done, on time every time without cutting corners

Work Location

• Successful candidates will be expected to be in the Mountain View, CA office, at least 3 times per week

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $ 225,000 - $260,000 annually. Salary is determined by a combination of factors including location, level, relevant experience, and skills. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations.  The compensation package for this position may also include equity, and benefits.
