Senior Scala.js Frontend Engineer

REMOTE or SF | $110K – $180K | 0.25% – 0.5% | Full time

We are a small insurance startup looking for experienced Frontend Engineers to work on our Scala.js app.

Our whole stack is based on Scala, both frontend and backend. Our renters insurance web app is a responsive Scala.js React SPA. You can see the primary quoting funnel by clicking “start here” on our home page.

You will be joining a small, strong team with an intense desire to build a great product and make customers happy. We are looking for someone who wants to build a modern, fair insurance product that everyone needs – a community safety net that is free of “necessary” evil.

Role

• Develop our responsive React web app written in Scala.js

• Work on GraphQL endpoints (Scala) as needed to support the frontend

• Collaborate with our designer on UI and UX

• Take loose problem statements and deliver appropriate solutions end-to-end

• Engage in thoughtful peer reviews, set the right kind of quality bar

• Work on a small team making a difference in a fast paced, unstructured environment

Requirements

• Intermediate to Senior level, ability to hit the ground running

• Solid skills in Scala, and either React or Scala.js

• Good understanding of UX principles

• Effective communication in a remote-first workflow

• Desire to fix a backward industry that is built on poor customer experiences

• Passion for building things from concept to implementation to production

Nice to have

• Experience with GraphQL, Relay

• Focus on correctness, understanding of functional programming (monix / cats / fs2 / etc.)

• Contributions to open source projects

• Understanding of accounting and money moving fundamentals
