Backend Engineer

At Glossier, we are establishing a team of talented engineers to build game-changing software for beauty commerce online and in our retail stores. You will play a significant role in shaping our software solutions that provide measurable customer value, working cross-functionally across engineering, product, design, and operations teams to create solutions to address business needs. You will collaborate with your teammates to surface common pain points, develop solutions, and evangelize best practices.

As a Software Engineer on the back of house fulfillment team, you will build features that deliver a best-in-class post-purchase experience across our omnichannel touchpoints. We are a small but nimble team where everybody works on meaningful, high impact projects that move the needle for Glossier. We are strong owners and eager builders looking to launch Glossier to new heights!

Six Month Expectations 

• Become proficient in our environment and learn how our systems work together to support our omnichannel business
• Write new components using GraphQL, Typescript, and Ruby/Rails
• Work closely with product managers and designers to create useful and polished user experiences
• Help integrate various services and systems together to create a seamless flow of information

Twelve Month Expectations

• Take ownership and/or support one or more of our services, and influence the direction of new feature sets
• Work on building APIs and tools to further improve our developer experience and other internal business processes
• Grow and mentor other engineers on best practices for backend engineering

Qualifications 

• 1+ years of software development experience building customer-facing applications
• Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, similar technical field of study, or equivalent practical experience
• Excellent debugging and troubleshooting skills, with an enthusiastic attitude to support and resolve customer problems
• Strong experience with Software Engineering/CS fundamentals, including data structures and algorithms
• Ability to work as a team player and deliver results in a remote cross-functional and cross-cultural working environment
• Ruby/Rails, Typescript, AWS, GraphQL nice to have
• E-commerce experience nice to have
