Role Description
Form’s Characterization as a Service Team is looking for a Materials Engineer to help us develop our core technology by empirically assessing degradation mechanisms and proposing corrective actions. In this role, you will initiate a Failure Analysis function within the Characterization Service to assess cell and system level performance as it pertains to degradation and failure mechanisms. You will identify processes and procedures for the planning and execution phases of product intent design dissections, conduct root cause analysis efforts and maintain a robust FMEA through collection of empirical data. You will be part of a highly cross functional team, and have the opportunity to grow your engineering and leadership skills.
What you'll do:
- Collaborate with the Cell Development and Battery Products teams to develop a deep understanding for component and systems designs
- Participate in root cause analysis strategy development and FMEA documentation to manage the team’s knowledge based of degradation and failure modes
- Facilitate the spatial expansion of the laboratory space and dissection instrumentation
- Utilize Characterization as a Service to pinpoint sources cell or system defects
- Develop dissection procedures and associated documentation to efficiently train others for execution
What you'll bring:
- B.S. or M.S. in Materials Science or Chemical Engineering
- 3+ years of experience Experience developing failure analysis methods based on first principles and experience
- Experience with organizing and owning root cause analysis and FMEA
- Experience with mechanical and material failure analysis in chemical systems
- Experience using cloud based organizational tools
- Strong communication skills within a group of peers and broader organization
