The Opportunity

Flock Safety is looking for the next Software Engineer to join the new Field Support team we are building from the ground up. Over the years, the amount of Flock Safety cameras operating in the field has grown, and we want to ensure the camera quality is always at its best. You will be working closely with the Camera R&D team to ensure the right tools and processes are set in place, and that the highest quality of our cameras for our customers. You will be responsible for not only validating each and every install, but also driving and building the mechanisms, processes, and feedback system to detect any hardware or software concerns as early as possible. 

This position is on-site in Tampere, Finland.

The Skillset

• Bachelors/Master of Science in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field with 5+ years experience
• Deep knowledge of UI development in various platforms
• Ability to develop and interact with cloud applications
• Experience working with and modifying Python testing frameworks
• Android OS and application development experience (Java/Kotlin/C++)
• Ability to develop UI applications for Android 
• Familiarity with source control solutions such as git
• Are comfortable working cross-functionally across multiple projects
• Possess effective verbal and written communication skills
• Have humility, curiosity, and a passion for sharing knowledge.

90 Days at Flock

We are a results-oriented culture and believe job descriptions are a thing of the past. We prescribe to 90 day plans and believe that good days, lead to good weeks, which lead to good months. This serves as a preview of the 90 day plan you will receive if you were to be hired as a Field Support Camera Engineer at Flock Safety. 

The First 30 Days

• Get familiar with our products, tools, and the role of the Field Support team in the process of ensuring high-quality installs and a healthy fleet of products.
• Build an understanding of how our images should look like, what are the typical problems we face, how to troubleshoot the cameras and how to solve the more complex support cases. 

The First 60 Days 

• Build installation validation tools to fasten the site validation process, such as:  automated image fetching, UI for image visualization, and automated setting adjustments
• Learn how to run database queries and how to patch assign updated settings to a larger amount of devices simultaneously

90 Days & Beyond 

• Perform day-to-day installation validation and support field support engineers
• Productize R&D tool to assist planner and installation work

The Interview Process

1. Our First Chat: During this first conversation, you’ll meet with a recruiter to chat through your background, what you could bring to Flock, what you are looking for in your next role, and who we are. 
2. The Hiring Manager Interview: You will meet with your potential future boss to really dive into the role, the team, expectations, and what success means at Flock. This is your chance to really nerd out with someone in your field. 
3. The Technical Assessment: Our technical assessments seek to test the hard skills required to do the job. Engineers may find themselves in coding interviews or architecture discussions, sales roles may present mock discovery calls, and leadership roles may craft 90 day plans. Your recruiter will inform you of which assessment you will be assigned and ensure you are fully prepared for your big day. 
4. The Panel: Learn more about the team, responsibilities, and workflows. You should be prepared to speak about past projects, how you collaborate and communicate with others, and how you live our values. Depending on the team and role you are interviewing for, you may meet with several teammates as well as cross-functional partners.
