About the team:

We are the FIS Embedded Finance team, and our mission is to enable developers across all verticals to imagine, create and monetize financial products to profoundly transform the way the entire financial industry consumes services. Today, it's difficult for many businesses to build the financial products they imagine. Whether that's launching a new credit or debit card, a savings account, a lending business, or anything else — there are barriers in the way that require excessive time and effort. We make it trivially easy for businesses to compliantly offer financial products and innovate on their key differentiators rather than spend all their time building and maintaining financial infrastructure.

Note: We have a hybrid work environment in our Seattle/Bellevue office unless the role or business dictates otherwise.

What you will be doing:

• Own a critical technical area of paramount importance to the company, advancing its capabilities through deep expertise and innovation. You'll be the go-to person for everything related to this area, ensuring its smooth operation, long-term health, maintainability, and continuous evolution.
• Act as the de facto authority for a major system or significant component, providing expert guidance and judgment necessary for diagnosing unexpected behaviors, evaluating proposed changes (considering both short-term needs and long-term system goals), and addressing customer and business needs. You'll be a clear domain expert, able to identify critical issues for the future of the system and propose novel and innovative solutions.
• Uncover ambiguous, subtle, and complex technical problems and showcase a high degree of creativity and innovation when addressing them. Your ability to analyze and solve these challenges will be instrumental in moving the platform forward.
• Champion strategic technical initiatives and drive the success of critical business goals by leading multiple high-impact projects. You'll translate business needs into elegant, scalable, and secure technical solutions, building new offerings that integrate existing systems into groundbreaking solutions for previously unaddressed user needs.
• Lead and mentor engineering teams, fostering a culture of excellence, growth, and innovation. You'll invest in your team members' individual growth, proactively identify, and solve team issues, and establish strong, collaborative relationships.
• Influence and guide technical direction across the organization, participating in long-term planning and shaping future initiatives. This includes establishing relationships and having influence across organizational boundaries, driving change, and ensuring your decisions impact the broader organization.
• Participate in code and technical architecture reviews to ensure code quality, maintainability, security, scalability, and adherence to engineering excellence standards.
• Provide live on-call support and drive projects to reduce operational burden and technical debt.

What you will need:

• At a minimum, a Bachelor's in CS or equivalent education, and 9+ years of professional experience (as a software engineer, developer, and/or architect).
• Proficiency in at least one modern development framework / language (e.g., Java, Python, Go). 
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience leading projects from architectural design to production, while setting and maintaining high standards of technical excellence across your team. 
• Experience in building and operating tier-1 production critical systems (high availability, low latency, very high throughput)

Added bonus if you have:

• Typical qualifications for the role are 12+ years of relevant professional experience or a combination of work experience and advanced education.
• Experience developing and nurturing strong relationships across organizational boundaries.
• Deep expertise in at least one area relevant to our cloud-based financial platform (e.g., fintech, AI/ML, distributed systems, databases, security, or front-end).
• Demonstrable ability to lead and mentor engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation.
• A strong understanding of software development lifecycles and product delivery flywheels, from ideation to execution.
• Experience in shaping product strategy and roadmaps that drive business growth.
• Experience in building and scaling high-performance engineering teams, or driving a culture of engineering excellence across multiple teams.
• Experience with live on-call and 24/7 operation of production services
• A strong track record of innovation and technical problem-solving.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills to influence both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• A strong understanding of security best practices for building enterprise applications.

FIS is committed to providing its employees with an exciting career opportunity and competitive compensation. The pay range for this full-time position is $262,560.00 - $441,100.00 and reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for this position based on the posted role, level, and location. Within the range, actual individual starting pay is determined additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Any changes in work location will also impact actual individual starting pay. Please consult with your recruiter about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.
