Director, Data Platform Architecture

About the role:
 

We are seeking a Director Cloud Data Platform Architect with the drive and expertise to design and build large scale complex applications for our cloud data platform. This role involves building high-traffic, data-intensive applications that are crucial for our daily operations. You’ll be an integral part of Data Platform leadership and you will take the helm in developing large-scale systems on AWS, utilizing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and CI/CD pipelines to deliver secure and scalable solutions. Your deep knowledge of containerization technologies and orchestrators like AWS EKS will be fundamental in enhancing our systems' performance and reliability.

You'll set the architectural best practices and build repeatable patterns and pipelines for our engineering teams. You are well versed with programming languages such as Python or Go and bring your experience with configuration management tools to ensure the robustness and efficiency of our services. You will be in the thick of problem-solving challenges, drawing from your extensive experience to maintain the high availability of our systems and ensure our infrastructure's security and compliance. Your expertise will define how we create a world class cloud data platform that will lay the foundation for advanced data use cases including AI.

About the team:

The Enterprise Data team operates globally as an ensemble cast that supports the business, product, and technology stakeholders throughout the merchant business. This is a team sport where the collective knowledge of the team and organization are harnessed to create thoughtful end-to-end solutions in collaboration with senior leaders and stakeholders from across the company.

What you will be doing:
As part of the Data Platform leadership, you’ll be responsible to lead Platform Architecture function and work collaboratively with Platform Engineering team to build a world-class platform that is highly scalable, secure, compliant, and self-serviceable. You will bring in the best practices, collaborate with stakeholders to understand and translate their requirements, provide thought leadership to the team, build repeatable patterns, and evaluate best in class tools and technology that suits our needs. You will also integrate key FinOps principles and best practices to maximize cloud ROI.

What you will need:

Bachelor’s in computer science or engineering, or the equivalent experience – post-graduate education desired.

Ten+ years of Big-Data experience including building data platforms in cloud. Preferably using AWS, Snowflake, Databricks, equivalent services.

Leadership skills with experience in driving large projects and implementing applications in a shared services environment.

Experience with large-scale Transformation Programs and Fortune 500 companies

Experience with cloud transformations and cloud migrations

Proficiency in solutions design and requirements definition disciplines leveraging model driven design-based tools and techniques.

Great soft skills in stakeholder management.

Added bonus if you have:

• Experience with formal Architecture Frameworks and or building security and network architecture diagrams.
• Experience in the Payments and/or FinTech Industry.
• Experience in Agile principles and methodology.
