Staff Software Engineer - Product Experience (UX Platform)
The Product Experience team is responsible for developing and maintaining our core user experience. As a Staff Software Engineer on our UX Platform team you will contribute to our design system and internal libraries, helping to maintain our current ecosystem and assisting in planning and developing the next generation of the Fastly UI. You will implement tools and processes that enable our organization to deliver delightful user experiences efficiently and with confidence.
What You'll Do
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, and customers to craft cohesive UI experiences that are used at scale
- Translate design concepts into innovative UI solutions that blend design, technology, strategy, and accessibility
- Make architectural decisions to shape Fastly’s long-term UX strategy
- Build tested, maintainable, and usable UI components in our living design system
- Collaborate with other frontend engineers, including participating in code reviews and Request for Comments (RFCs)
- Mentor peers and promote inclusivity and best practices within and across teams
- Advocate for the user within the engineering team
- Participate in on-call rotation
Work Hours:
- This position will require you to be available during core business hours.
- Occasional night and weekend work will be required as needed for on-call support rotation
What We're Looking For
Basic Qualifications:
- Experience building design systems
- Experience developing and testing applications in TypeScript with React or other JavaScript frameworks
- Experience with modern web development tools and processes such as package management, module bundlers, and task runners
- Strong understanding of user experience principles and accessibility best practices
- Ability to work within a cross-functional team and collaborate with designers, product managers, and other engineers
- Passion for creating delightful user experiences that are accessible, performant, and secure
- Self-motivated and able to work independently or in a team environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with GraphQL or REST APIs
- Experience with server-side development
- Experience with monorepo tooling, and CI/CD best practices
Work Location(s) & Travel Requirements
- This position is based out of Fastly’s London, UK office. Fastly currently embraces a largely hybrid model for most roles which allows employees flexibility to split their time between the office and home.
- This position may require travel as required by your role or requested by your manager.
