Senior Site Reliability Engineer - Storage

The Storage Efficiency team builds, deploys and evolves the storage infrastructure, configuration, and architecture that is an essential part of the Fastly’s POPs. The team manages the storage utilization to meet Fastly’s growing product roadmap and changing technical requirements and focuses on key observability of the storage stack, optimizing the disk configuration, and storage abstractions for the software services running in the POPs. 

In this role, you will help to develop Fastly’s next generation storage. You will work with closely with one of Fastly’s founders, who will mentor you in all aspects of a world class CDN and caching  at scale. Additionally, you will have ownership of a critical internal tool that manages the drives, the partitions, and configuration which involves the development and evolution of the tool, and collaborating with teams across the engineering organization. 

What You'll Do

• Characterize different generations, vendors, density, and configuration of storage drives with the Fastly stack and use that data to make changes to the configurations of the drive
• Improve the observability of the storage stack to proactively identify and address performance and stability issues to meet high scale requirements
• Evolve an internal disk configuration and management tool including addressing technical debt, meet scale requirements, and changes to the software architecture 
• Work with teams on rolling out and testing changes to the storage stack
• Collaborate with stakeholders on future storage architecture 

Work Hours:

• This position will require you to be available during core business hours

What We're Looking For

Basic Qualifications:

• In order to be successful in this role, you must have a minimum of 2 years experience in software development, design patterns and DevOps best practices
• You have at least 2 years of experience  with compiled languages, preferably Go or Rust
• You have at least 1 year of experience with file systems or storage solutions 
• You have at least 1 year of experience with networking/distributed/cloud systems

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with monitoring solutions like Prometheus and Grafana
• Experience with Operating Systems or kernel development  
• Experience with SSD optimization in distributed systems

Work Location(s) & Travel Requirements

This position is based out of Fastly’s San Francisco office. Fastly currently embraces a largely hybrid model for most roles which allows employees flexibility to split their time between the office and home. 

This position may require travel as required by your role or requested by your manager.

Salary

The estimated salary range for this position is $155,370 to $194,210.

Starting salary may vary based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, and location.

This role may be eligible to participate in Fastly’s equity and discretionary bonus programs.
