THE POSITION
Our roster has an opening with your name on it

As a Director of Engineering within the Technology Transformation team, you’ll be working closely with the VP of Tech Transformation and a team of engineers to identify ways that FanDuel can leverage new and innovative technologies to provide new and cutting-edge customer experiences and drive internal innovations for the business. You will be asked to think big and be willing to move fast. You’ll identify opportunities and put them into action quickly, and you won’t be afraid of failure. You’ll know when to pivot and how to measure success. And when you’ve found a successful solution, you’ll know how to build it for scale and longevity for our rapidly growing company and will think about the long-term implications for the business.  You’ll be excited by propelling our business forward and making FanDuel an industry leader for innovative technologies. You’ll support and mentor a team of engineers as they tackle tough technical challenges within the fast paced and growing environment. You’ll help find opportunities focused on providing the best employee experience while balancing delivery of capabilities that work at Scale. You’ll own your software, helping define solutions to problems while mitigating long-term risks. You’ll raise and help mitigate blockers while providing status updates to leadership.  

We’re looking for experienced managers who enjoy helping and coaching those around them.  You have a passion for delivery and working with other managers to help solve problems.  You are comfortable communicating with stakeholders.  You’ll be able to use your existing Software Engineering knowledge to help stakeholders understand the delivery process.  You know where to simplify, optimize, or extend solutions for the best outcomes.  You’re excited to help develop and grow engineers within your team, providing an outstanding employee experience tailored to their individual needs.

 

THE GAME PLAN

Reporting into the VP of Technology Strategy and Transformation, you will over oversee and deliver slate of new innovation ideas.  You will help us build new solutions and capabilities quickly and will be eager to test cutting edge technologies as part of these solutions. You will be a go-getting who is willing to roll up their sleeves and get something done and isn’t afraid to fail. You will be directly accountable for the experience, management and development of both the Engineering teams that report to you as well as serve as a mentor and leader for third-party Engineering teams that we partner with. Leading by example, you will help our engineers develop and grow by encouraging them to contribute to cross-team technical discussions, support their ideas and initiatives, and most importantly empower them as individuals to make decisions. 

Other responsibilities include: 

  • Help build an innovation development team to rapidly prototype, experiment, and demonstrate production-like capabilities
  • Manage and deliver strategic technical and product roadmaps for innovative solutions
  • Develop relationships with stakeholders and refine existing roadmaps for success 
  • Contribute to the assessment, analysis, planning, and design of Web and Mobile applications 
  • Ensure the health of Agile principles and practices within the Team 
  • Provide strong domain knowledge of the business and technology platform 
  • Communication of designs, progress, and achievements across all levels of the organization 
  • Ensure solutions are appropriately documented, supported and transitioned into BAU
  • Maintain relationships with other disciplines and stakeholders

  • Measure, own and drive predictability through Operational Excellence and transparency through data and KPIs 

 

THE STATS
What we're looking for in our next teammate

  • At least 9 years of software development experienced in both web and mobile programming
  • Has served in a senior managerial role of at least 4 years
  • BSc or Masters in Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • Experience with front end technologies such as React and Angular, mobile languages such as Swift, Kotlin, and React Native
  • Has technical proficiency in full stack technology – can build using programming languages in Javascript, Node.js, Typescript, Java
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication and presentation skills; this role has considerable exposure to senior leaders, with a need to communicate complex technical activities in a simple manner to varying stakeholders.
  • Willingness to try new things quickly, with a test and learn mentality. Someone who is not afraid to fail and pivot when the time is right.
  • Has a pulse on new and innovative technology trends in the market and is eager to stay at the cutting edge
  • Proven track record of leading and managing multi-disciplinary teams on complex software projects.
  • You have deep expertise from similar roles within a large, fast moving, online digital business, and will have experience of lean, agile, and more traditional delivery methodologies.
  • You have an ability to collaborate with technical leaders, from brainstorming technical architectures to leading the charge on performance and stability, to helping unblock technical roadblocks. You’re comfortable getting in the technical weeds when you need to in order to ensure the best Product delivery possible.
  • You will be able to focus and motivate third party delivery partners to build best-in-class technical solutions, as well as work at pace with quality and deadlines at the forefront of their thinking.
  • Knowledge of sports and/or experience working within a heavily regulated industry is a plus
