What you can do for Expel

• Guide multiple teams to work together on large scale projects and deliver on business goals with timely, iterative execution.
• Build understanding of how the work of teams and individuals ties to company strategy and goals.
• Collaborate with PM, UX, and Quality teams to align and contribute to the product strategy, set expectations on delivery, and engage in healthy, robust dialog around trade offs and concerns.
• Cultivate a culture around structured software development, innovation, quality, and measurable, continuous improvement.
• Make decisions with regard to budget and long term strategy and articulate trade offs to teams and leadership.
• Continuously provide coaching, feedback, and career growth to engineering managers.

What you should bring with you

• 5+ years managing and mentoring engineers of all levels, and engineering managers.
• 15+ years delivering large-scale, high-performing cloud platforms.
• Extensive experience focused on Data Platform Engineering.
• Excellent active listening, negotiation, and conflict management skills across communication styles and levels from deeply technical through executive.
• Keen understanding of software development lifecycle phases, multiple delivery methodologies, and how they work with different types of teams/projects.
• Experience contributing to budget planning and financial business decisions.
• Solid understanding of data analysis and performance/operational metrics and statistics
• Technical and cost management experience working with cloud-native services in at least one of the top cloud providers - GCP (preferred), AWS, Azure.
• Previous experience with technical concepts such as database architectures (relational and nosql), containerization and orchestration, and previous fluency in multiple programming languages

Additional notes

The base salary range for this role is between $187,800 - $272,300 + bonus eligibility and equity.

We believe in paying transparently and equitably. Your salary will ultimately be based on factors such as your experience, skills, team equity, and market data. You’ll also be eligible for unlimited PTO (which we model and encourage), work location flexibility, up to 24 weeks of parental leave, and really excellent health benefits.
