Introduction to team 

Our Expedia Product & Technology division builds innovative products, services, and tools to deliver high-quality experiences for travelers, partners, and our employees. A unified, singular technology platform powered by data and machine learning provides secure, differentiated, and personalized experiences for the traveler and our partners that drive loyalty and customer satisfaction. 

An established performer who consistently applies software engineering principles to business contexts, leads small, well-defined projects 
and continues as a supporting player on complex projects, and actively identifies inefficiencies in existing systems.

In this role, you will: 

  • Work on cutting edge technology for the providing world class developer experience, including exposure to open source tech.

  • Design and implement high performance, scalable, robust and reliable server applications that support key Expedia initiatives.

  • Translate functional specifications into logical, component-based technical designs.

  • Prototype creative solutions quickly by developing minimum viable products and work with others in crafting and implementing the technical vision.

  • Provide code reviews to assess overcall code quality and flexibility, and the application of good object-oriented programming techniques.

  • Write automated unit, system and acceptance tests as appropriate to support our continuous integration pipelines.

  • Work on improving Developer Experience and Productivity by solving complex problems, enhance existing features on Backstage

  • Build automation workflows, add new ChatOps commands via Stackstorm, Improve developer productivity via LinearB

  • Proactively reaches out to meet peers across environment and collaborates to solve problems

  • Takes advantage of opportunities to build new technical expertise in a specific engineering area

  • Applies software design principles, data structures and/or design patterns and computer science fundamentals to write code that is clean, maintainable, optimized, modular with good naming conventions

  • Applies knowledge of database design to solve data requirements

  • Helps coordinate stakeholder input and collaboration efforts when developing solutions to issues

  • Thinks broadly and understand how, why and when policies/processes are standardized and when they differ across the organization

  • Completes tasks and/or provides data to support implementation of holistic solutions that forge linkages between structure, people, process and technology

  • Asks challenging questions when empowered to do so

  • Mentor junior members of the engineering team and raise the bar by contributing to continuously improving engineering practices and development standards.

Experience and qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering or related technical field; or equivalent related professional experience

  •  5+ years of experience in a Software Development Engineer or similar role

  •  Full stack engineering with expert level experience in Java, Kotlin or an equivalent language

  • Experience working with front end technologies such as ReactJS, NodeJS, AngularJS or an equivalent language

  • Experience working with GraphQL or an equivalent strongly typed language

  • Experience working on K8s, AWS cloud services

  • Demonstrated understanding of automation frameworks - Python, Ansible, Cypress or an equivalent technology

  •  Strong knowledge of Object-Oriented Programming, Data Structures, and Algorithms 

  • Strong understanding of memory leaks, cpu utilisation

  • Experience on monitoring tools such as Splunk , Datadog

  • Experience leading cross-functional large-scale projects

  • Mentored and developed other software engineers

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information clearly and concisely

  • Solid understanding of the software development life cycle, architecture and design, software craftsmanship and test strategies
