Location: This position will work a hybrid model (remote and in office 1 - 2 days per week).  Ideal candidates will live within 50 miles of our Pulse Point location in Richmond, VA.

The Business Information Developer Senior (Senior Data Engineer) is responsible for developing and executing complex data mining analyses, which involves the design and execution of programs to extract data.  This role uses cloud-based technology, extensive healthcare data, and individual/team ingenuity to improve the delivery of vital healthcare services.  

How you will make an impact:

  • Assists with data import building, data modeling, and data sense-making to enhance the line-of-sight and measurement of operational processes.

  • Identifies new relationships and patterns within data.

  • Establishes connectivity to operations source systems and data repositories.

  • Conducts data discovery work to understand strengths, limitations, and opportunities within the available data.

  • Builds an increasingly comprehensive understanding of database design, data definitions, system capabilities, and data integrity issues.

  • Uses structured query language (SQL) to extract relevant sets of data to address operational needs and challenges.

  • Works with a diverse set of business partners in Operations, IT, etc. to understand their business needs and craft data-oriented solutions.

  • Develops and supports database-related applications for business areas requiring design and implementation of database tables.

  • Conducts training on use of developed applications.

  • Develops standardized reporting using the data warehouse, in addition to ad hoc reports.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Requires a BS/BA degree and a minimum of 2 years related analytical experience; or any combination of education and experience which would provide an equivalent background.

Preferred Skills, Capabilities, and Experiences:

  • Experience presenting technical subject matters to non-technical audiences strongly preferred.

  • Experience in the maintenance of data processes and data quality strongly preferred.

  • Ability to learn new skills and subject matters (developing a network of knowledgeable contacts, assessing level of understanding and gaining new insights, documenting useful information for broader team’s use, etc.) strongly preferred.

  • Ability to toggle effectively between several concurrent projects preferred.

  • Proficient in presenting team’s work in various forums preferred.

  • Ability to train and mentor junior team members in data engineering work preferred.

  • Background in operations (pharmacy, contact center, manufacturing, print or digital communications, etc.) preferred.

  • Familiarity with Amazon RedShift, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, or equivalent database software preferred.

  • Familiarity with data import/ETL software (Microsoft SSIS, Informatica, Talend, or equivalent) preferred.
