Senior Software Engineer II (Observability)

We want people who are passionate about designing, building, and operating large scale Observability systems and end user tools to provide internal teams the telemetry they need to give our customers the best possible experiences on DigitalOcean.

We are looking for a Senior Engineer II to help architect and implement the next generation of internal Observability tools at DigitalOcean. Reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager of Observability, you will help us improve the scalability, reliability, and usability of our internal Observability stack.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Helping define the long term roadmap and goals for Observability at DigitalOcean.
• Integrating and operating open source observability software such as Opensearch, Clickhouse, Prometheus, VictoriaMetrics, Alertmanager, Grafana, and Kibana.
• Implementing features to both improve the operability of our services and help design and implement the next generations of metrics and logging at DigitalOcean.
• Guiding other engineers on how they can best utilize our systems to gain confidence that their services are performing as expected.

What You’ll Add to DigitalOcean:

• Deep expertise in open source Observability software such as Prometheus, Opensearch, Clickhouse, and VictoriaMetrics. 
• Expertise with running software on container orchestration systems such as Kubernetes or Nomad
• Deep expertise in writing software in Golang. Experience with the challenges of concurrency and distributed systems is a must.
• Expertise with DevOps tooling such as Terraform, Ansible, and Github Actions (or other relevant CI/CD experience).
• An ability to work well as part of a geographically distributed remote team.
• Participation in a 24/7 on call rotation
• Someone who is motivated to learn, teach, grow, explore, and seek out areas we can improve
• Strong communication and customer service skills - we provide support to the internal users of the systems we design, build, and operate.
