DigitalOcean’s Storage Team is a remote team that builds and operates cloud-scale distributed storage powering internal and customer-facing services and products. We’re creating flexible and powerful solutions that our customers will leverage to ship their software as quickly, easily, and safely as possible.

The Droplet Storage Team supports the operations and development of block volumes, backups and image management.  We are looking for an engineer who will help lead the development and support of current and future storage platforms at scale. The ultimate goal of the Droplet Storage Team is to create a cohesive singular interface to hypervisor storage where storage class placement decisions are transparent to the hypervisor client and take advantage of the full range of available block storage classes to best satisfy customer needs.

The selected candidate will have the opportunity to make impactful contributions to key software, contribute to the open source community, and debug interesting problems at cloudscale. This role reports to the Engineering Manager of the Droplet Storage team and is currently only available remotely. 

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Leading engineering efforts to deliver innovative storage solutions
  • Supporting the creation and operations of distributed systems
  • Programming in Go and other languages
  • Collaborating with a motivated team of peers
  • Consuming from and contributing to free/open source software communities
  • Solving interesting problems in a technically rewarding environment

What You’ll Add to DigitalOcean:

  • 8 + years of experience developing, testing, and shipping well-engineered code (Go a plus!)
  • 8 + years of experience automating, operating, and troubleshooting production systems
  • 1+ years of experience implementing a NVMe-oF solution preferred
  • 3+ years of experience with Linux operating systems and familiarity with storage fundamentals
  • Experience with containerization (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes) and service-oriented architectures
  • 3+ years of experience leading discussions on architectures, implementations, design patterns, and processes with the ability to succinctly convey ideas to peers and mentees
  • Familiarity with concurrency / parallelism models in a modern programming languages
  • Experience with gRPC, S3, and distributed storage systems such as Ceph
  • 4+ years of experience designing, building, and operating network-distributed storage products in the enterprise or the cloud, experience building distributed block storage products is a plus
  • Competency in virtualization storage stacks.
  • 1+ years of experience with Linux virtualization with an emphasis on libvirt and QEMU

Employees may qualify for a bonus in addition to base salary; bonus amounts are determined based on company and individual performance.
