We are looking for a Senior Hardware Test Engineer to support test bring-up , development, and debug for cruise designed autonomous vehicle hardware. In this role, you will be responsible for developing end-to-end testing solutions for various AV (autonomous vehicle) components including: Compute systems, optical sensors, acoustic sensors, transducers, etc. You will be involved in debugging/triaging/root-causing issues in embedded system software. Partnering with engineering/software teams, TPMs, and our suppliers you will ensure comprehensive test coverage in both development and manufacturing settings! This position is eligible for CruiseFlex, which is our hybrid flexible work schedule!

What you’ll be doing:

  • Develop test methodology and specifications to verify and validate Cruise AV hardware designs against functional, performance and reliability requirements, in both development and production environments.
  • Ensure accurate manufacturing and validation test coverage for Cruise AV hardware. The result of your work enables collecting design gaps in the development phase and screening out manufacturing assembly defects before they are shipped.
  • Collaborate with HW/FW/SW teams to participate in design reviews, define functional test coverage, pass/fail criteria, manufacturing image features and API requirements.
  • You should be comfortable tinkering with existing code for hot bug-fixes, delivering optimizations to quickly enable testing, developing wrappers around binary images as needed.
  • Partner with suppliers to develop test stations to implement test coverage, which may include IQC, inline, EOL, OQC, Environmental Stress Screening, Burn-In and REL.
  • Own test preparation, authorize test methods, train technicians to complete and oversee test executions to support validation tests at Cruise or our lab partners.
  • Analyze test data and share learnings with HW/SW teams to enable FA/RCA and design countermeasures.
  • Early engagement with cross functional development teams to drive DFT requirement

What you must have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
  • 10+ years of experience in MFG/HW test experience across electronics, automotive, aerospace or related space
  • Familiar with common lab equipment such as: Power Supplies, Oscilloscopes, Signal Generators, DMMs, Logic Analyzers, etc
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Python. Must have delivered successful mid to large scale SW projects using Python. 
  • Understanding of networking fundamentals in PCIe, Ethernet, and TCP/IP.
  • A can-do attitude to navigate through ambiguity and break complex challenges into solvable engineering problems

Bonus points!

  • Experience with Linux and basic shell scripting
  • Proficient in C/C++ and debugging embedded system software. Possess solid understanding of embedded systems design and debugging methodologies and strategies.
  • Experience with low-pin-count communication buses (I2C/SPI/UART).
  • Experience with L4 autonomous vehicle sensor or compute development
  • Experience in test development across high-volume-low-mix, and low-volume-high-mix environments
  • Familiarity with automotive validation standards

    The salary range for this position is $108,600 - $159,600. Compensation will vary depending on location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. You may also be offered a bonus, restricted stock units, and benefits. These ranges are subject to change.
