About the role of Head of Engineering
The role of Head of Engineering at Cognite holds paramount importance, serving as a pivotal link between strategic vision and operational execution. In this capacity, you will lead a team tasked with developing our product in alignment with our company strategy and roadmap. As a key member of the leadership team within Product, you will have the opportunity to influence the strategic direction of our offerings.

Reporting directly to the Chief Product Officer, you will spearhead the establishment of a world-class engineering organization, ensuring the impeccable quality of the software that forms the backbone of Cognite's products. About the Product Organization at Cognite
Product is the division responsible for developing Cognite Data Fusion (CDF) as a robust and scalable platform for solving industrial data problems at Cognite. The industrial data problem is at the heart of transforming asset-intensive industries to be safer, more sustainable and more profitable. Cognite’s Cognite Data Fusion makes the operational data available at scale and adds value to the data through data processing. This enables asset-intensive industries to make data-driven decisions. Our platform is built on many different technologies, each good at solving various challenges.

To build the best possible product, we believe in autonomous teams with developers, designers and product managers working closely together. Our teams are working on building the next-generation industrial data platform and applications across many different industries, such as Oil & Gas, Manufacturing, and Power & Utility. This includes enabling all types of workflows, including analytics, to assist in making better decisions. We are a good mix of engineers, products, and design. What we have in common is that we care deeply about the user experience and create products that users really want to use.

You will work with the best domain and industry experts: designers, product managers, backend developers, ML engineers, 3D developers and business leaders. Your mandate and key responsibilities

  • Together with the leadership in Product you are responsible for delivering on the strategy within Cognite and Product 
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to relentlessly turn the industrial future we envision in our Roadmap into production grade software that delights our users
  • Build a global engineering organization, with highly motivated and performing individual contributors and leaders. Our engineering offices are in Oslo, Austin and Bangalore.
  • You have the overall responsibility of the organization development in your department
  • You are accountable for the software quality of our SaaS data platform and applications
  • Collaborate closely with other departments and stakeholders within the company 
  • Report on key performance indicators for engineering to the Product Leadership Team

Key Qualifications

  • You have experience working hands on as a developer early on in your career
  • You have 5+ years of experience as a technology leader
  • You have managed both individual contributors and leadership teams in product development
  • You have a technical depth and strategic mindset, where technology and data is part of your DNA
  • You have experience building products with one or more of Azure, AWS and GCP
  • You have experience working with SaaS companies
  • You are team player that takes ownership and sets a clear direction for your division and the people that report to you
  • You are great at building high performing leadership teams with high trust
  • You seek to make an impact for  the customer, the company and the people you work with 
  • You never give up and are relentless in your pursuit of building something great
