About the role

Chime is looking for a Software Engineer Intern to join our Lending  team. The Lending team is a small startup within a larger startup. We launched our first product, “Instant Loans”, in early 2022. Many Americans, 30%-40%, lack an emergency fund or the spare cash to cover an unexpected $400 expense, and we’re trying to make sure they have something much, much better to turn to than payday loans!

We’ve spent the last year iterating and experimenting our way to product-market-fit. Looking forward, we’ll be trying to scale our existing MVP well beyond its current beta population. We’re also planning to continue experimenting in adjacent areas to see if there are additional unmet (or poorly met) liquidity needs that Chime can solve with innovative, member-friendly financial products. This is an exciting opportunity to learn while playing a role in a fast-moving, front-line product engineering team at Chime.

This role is structured as a 3 month engagement. The starting hourly rate offered for this role and target level of experience will begin at $29 and up to $42. The actual base salary offered may be higher, depending on your location, skills, qualifications, and experience. 

In this role, you can expect to

  • Work alongside our experienced engineering team to design, develop, and maintain software that powers innovative, member-friendly financial services. 
  • Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including planning, design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product management, design, and credit risk.
  • Gain exposure to a variety of software technologies and programming languages, including but not limited to JavaScript, React Native, Ruby on Rails.
  • Have the opportunity to propose and implement your own ideas and solutions to improve our software applications and business operations

To thrive in this role, you:       

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field of study from an accredited college or university
  • Strong organizational, analytical, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Creative thinker and self starter with a passion for consumer FinTech
  • Are flexible and enjoy doing whatever it takes to execute on complex projects
  • Have a low ego and are comfortable working directly well with a wide range of stakeholders
