Senior Full Stack Software Engineer, Java - Pet Pharmacy

Our Opportunity:

Chewy is looking for a Senior Full Stack Software Engineer - Java  to join our Pet Heath Tech Team in Minneapolis, MN. In this lead position, you will be in charge of evaluating new technologies, designing, developing impactful software capabilities to enhance or create new functionality needed to grow Chewy, as well as mentoring and growing the Java team. You will have the opportunity to be part of a high performing engineering team with sound knowledge of business processes that include supply chain, and fulfillment. This specific division of Chewy’s Warehouse Management System team is focused on building, scaling, and maintaining the software necessary to run our Pet Health Pharmacy Fulfillment Centers (FCs).  As a key member of our Software Engineering team, you will deliver functionality in the Pet Health business that enables our FCs to provide world class customer experience, such as the ability to ship an order within an hour of it being placed.

What You'll Do:

• While working within an Agile environment, you will work with Developers, Product Managers and Business stakeholders to implement effective pharmacy solutions. 
• Document code customization in compliance with established standards and practices
• Manage deadlines by balancing deliverables from multiple projects, production support, and system administration tasks
• Act in the capacity of a software engineer to actively participate in the definition, design, development, testing and implementation of software functionality using the Agile methodology.
• Create or modify complex programs, modules, routines, scripts and data objects from a detailed design where efficiency, performance and reliability are critical.
• Work with and advise both business and technology teams (internal and external) on how best to implement desired features and enhancements.
• Ensure that technical solutions follow best practices, are reliable, are easily maintainable and are scalable under sustained load. Improve and Enforce Chewy’s best practices, mentor other engineers.
• Collaborate to identify, isolate and resolve malfunctions related to software.
• Drive innovation through rapid prototyping and iterative development.
• Conduct design reviews and code reviews and raise the bar on engineering rigor and standard.
• Debug production issues across services and tech stack.
• Continuously measure and optimize the performance, effectiveness, and uptime of backend services.
• You will participate in setting guidelines for evolving development practices.
• Design and develop resilient systems and front-end components for a customer-facing web applications
• Drive innovation through rapid prototyping and iterative development
• Measure and optimize the performance, effectiveness, and uptime of backend services

What You'll Need:

• Bachelor’s Degree (MIS or CS preferred) or equivalent work experience
• Minimum 3 years working proficiency in Computer Science fundamentals - design, problem solving, and complexity analysis, object-oriented design, data structures, System Design.
• Minimum 5 years of software development in Java8/Spring Boot stack
• Minimum 1 year experience working with REACT
• Minimum of 3 years of cloud architecture and service development experience
• Be a hands-on Engineer spending significant percentage of their time writing code or debugging tricky issues
• 3+ years of experience working with REST based web services (HTTP, REST).
• Strong analytical abilities and a strong intellectual curiosity.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong time management and organization skills.
• Must be team oriented and have a customer service mindset.
• Self-driven, able to work independently or within a team setting.
• Results oriented and adaptable.
• Effective troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

Bonus:

• Experience with relational databases such as MS SQL / Oracle / PostgreSQL
• Experience with Atlassian suite of tools (JIRA, Confluence, HipChat)
• Previous experience with Korber HighJump or any Warehouse Management System
• Development experience with enterprise applications
• Exposure to .NET Web Services, and Message Queueing experience
• Experience in e-commerce/ retail.
• Experience with Scrum, XP or other agile methodologies a plus.
• Good communication skills with both technical and business audiences.
• Experience working directly with non-IT business partners.
