Our Customer Relationship Management (CRM) team is focused on scalable delivery of highly personalized messages to Chewy customers across our owned and operated marketing channels (email, push, Chewy.com, Chewy app, and more). We are looking for an experienced Senior Marketing Automation Developer join our CRM team in our Boston, MA, Plantation, FL, Minneapolis, MN or Seattle, WA offices. In this role, you will work with email development team, CRM marketing managers, engineers to develop, implement and deploy triggered programs that maximize engagement and retention of key customer segments.

This role will be responsible for the front-end email campaign development, management, and optimization of the technical framework of the triggered automated programs.

The ideal candidate is experienced in personalized email campaigns development, has outstanding knowledge of marketing automation and email best practices. He/she has an innate love of learning new platforms and coding languages. The role is also expert in understanding both the overarching goals and concepts of automations as well as the nuances of complex data, can translate business rules into technical execution of triggered automated programs and customer journeys.

What You’ll Do:

  • Code mobile first live-text and image-based emails using the latest HTML and CSS email oriented best practices, while also leveraging and updating pre-built templates and modules
  • Create highly personalized scalable dynamic content modules using Oracle Responsys templating language and HTML/CSS
  • Set up triggered automated programs from start to finish
  • Plan and implement third party integrations with ESP
  • Own triggered automated programs email campaigns readability and accurate rendering across all major email clients and devices
  • Work closely with automations Marketing Manager to understand requirements and technical specifications and go-to-market timelines on triggered programs
  • Work with the CRM team managers and other business units to analyze specifications for marketing automation requests, including campaigns, multi-channel marketing, and managing triggered automated campaigns across multiple channels
  • Set up new data objects and data integrations with ESP
  • Manage and translate database and list data appropriately
  • Create automation flowcharts, triggered programs technical designs, and other process and task management documentation
  • Understand the end-to-end experience of automated programs from creation to deployment and reporting
  • Create in-depth test plans to make sure all scenarios are always fully tested, follow best practices, and align with design/brand requirements before deployment
  • Provide creative and valuable marketing automation solutions
  • Be the liaison in troubleshooting a myriad of data or technical challenges
  • Work with vendor, CRM development team and other team members the business to find resolutions to complex problems
  • Manage own time and several simultaneous projects
  • Estimate timelines and scope in various projects
  • Work closely with other email developers assisting email team with supplemental development tasks, codebase enhancement, maintenance and tentpole event executions

What You’ll Need:

  • 6+ years of hands-on email development experience; creating responsive, adaptive, fluid/hybrid emails, and is experienced in modular codebase development
  • Working knowledge and understanding of media queries, HTML/CSS, SQL and at least one of email scripting languages such as AMPscript, Liquid, Freemarker; RPL or JavaScript etc.
  • Experience using enterprise ESPs like Responsys, Salesforce Marketing Cloud and others
  • Experience using design software such as Adobe Creative Suite
  • Hands-on experience in producing effective automated marketing solutions (plan, build, test, edit, and deploy)
  • Ability and desire to learn new platforms and coding languages
  • Ability to effectively communicate with team members to align plans, solve problems, and deliver solutions that get results
  • Ability to document automation flowcharts, personalized campaigns technical designs
  • Demonstrate creative thinking, problem solving, and piecing together technical puzzles
  • Understanding of relational data architecture concept and data types
  • Understand how to integrate and maintain the integrity of key systems (CRM, reporting dashboards, analytics, product, and customer database) to ensure seamless, consistent data flow within programs and campaign content personalization
  • Understanding of CAN-SPAM and other email marketing legal regulations
  • Be an excellent critical thinker with creative solutions to solve challenges and meet business requirements
  • Be able to work independently as well as collaborate with other members of the CRM and email team
  • Strong automated programs development and management skills
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, organized, and desire for complete ownership of a project
  • No travel needed
