ABOUT CARVANA…

Carvana is on a mission to change the way people buy, sell, and own cars. On our way there, we’re disrupting an entire industry and making vehicle ownership accessible to more people than ever before.

The automotive retail industry is highly fragmented. When was the last time you heard that being 5% of the market could make you 5X bigger than the next alternative? Welcome to automotive. The sky's the limit, seriously.

To get there, we’ve been building a one-of-a-kind fully vertically integrated supply chain and retail experience to make buying a car as delightful and convenient as buying a box of diapers on Amazon. Pull out your phone, pick a car, and we’ll deliver it to you in a few days. To build that type of business we’ve been investing in infrastructure (reconditioning centers, car haulers, transportation facilities...oh, and giant vending machines) powered by sophisticated technology. And that’s not even what our customers see. On the other side is an ever-evolving customer-facing set of product experiences no different than the world's largest e-tailers.

ABOUT THE TEAM AND POSITION…

Marketplace is a division of Carvana focused on our B2B offerings. We’ve already built a two billion dollar business (Sell to Carvana and Carvana Wholesale) and acquired a third (ADESA). These B2B offerings power our retail flywheel enabling us to build a wider moat and provide customers with the industry’s best selection and experience. At the same time, we’re serving a diverse set of businesses - from financial institutions to mom-and-pop dealerships - and bringing the same transformative experience Carvana brought to retail, but to wholesale.

As a Senior Product Manager you’ll support teams responsible for systems used by our distributed operational teams and various customer facing experiences. Specifically, your goal will be to make sure that every business that decides to work with Carvana has the best possible experience regardless of their touchpoints with us - digital, in-person, or in the metaverse (j/k).

At Carvana being a Product Manager goes beyond technology. Your product is your business and you’ll need to think about the impact your products have not just on customer experience, but also how they’re powered by distributed operational teams. Think of it as taking your pure-tech PM skills to the next level. You will need to interface with executives at all levels across the company to build alignment, partner on execution, and define strategy.

We believe our experience is great because our people are great. Investing in our people is fundamental to building a great company and customer experience. Expect support and partnership from those around you. Many of our best leaders come from within.

RESPONSIBILITIES…

We need people who are comfortable making decisions without an answer to every question, finding solutions to problems that haven’t been solved, and designing products that no one has attempted. We find that those types of people tend to be great at data, great at working across teams, and laser-focused on building a great customer experience.

We’re doing more than just building an app, we’re building end-to-end businesses - from the ground up. That means you have to be willing to scale down and up alongside the needs of the business - from running SQL queries to cementing strategic partnerships.

In addition to all the traditional Product Manager duties, we expect you to:

  • Develop and evangelize your team’s mission, strategy, and objectives with both internal and external partners
  • Work directly with large, raw datasets to meticulously transform them into intelligible, customer-facing products
  • Take day-to-day ownership and execution responsibility for various product (and occasionally, non-product) initiatives
  • Act as the main point of contact for and driver of cross-functional collaboration with a large field operations organization across many locations nationwide
  • Use qualitative and quantitative research and analysis methods to investigate customers’ frustrations and unmet needs and creatively identify product development opportunities
  • Own initiative shaping, scoping, and requirements drafting to enable effective engineering execution
  • Write clear project briefs and detailed requirements to effectively communicate with the team and align all stakeholders around a common understanding of “what” and “why”
  • Creatively explore ways to speed up time-to-value, reduce risk, and increase the pace of learning through prototyping, pilot testing, and other forms of validation
  • Track, analyze, interpret, and share results of product team initiatives to track progress against KPIs
  • Collect requirements and build relationships by working alongside business teams, partners, and users in local US markets - travel 15% of the year
  • Bring a flexible, entrepreneurial, “whatever it takes” attitude to creating impact
  • Live the Carvana values

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE...

  • 5+ years of start-up, “jack-of-all-trades”, or more traditional product management experience at one or more companies
  • Experience working with operational teams, preferably large and distributed teams
  • Strong understanding of metrics
  • Split-testing design and interpretation
  • Great communication and collaboration skills
  • Definitive design sensibility
  • A sense of humor – we don’t take ourselves too seriously and love to have fun
  • Data querying, modeling, and visualization skills (SQL, Tableau, Python, etc.) a plus
  • Automotive industry or car-enthusiast knowledge a plus

Even if your experience doesn’t fit like a glove, we still encourage you to apply. Many of our rockstars didn’t fit the mold on day one.
