Senior Software Engineer in Test

Position Overview

Brightcove is looking to hire a senior software engineer in test.  The Data Services team at Brightcove designs, develops and operates big data collection and processing systems that power the reporting and business intelligence tools for our customers. We do this on a massive scale, capturing billions of events each day from our video players across the globe.

We are looking for a bright, curious, organized, and motivated individual to lead the testing efforts of the Billing Services team.  You will work with other leaders to determine requirements, design and implement tests that exercise individual components and the integrations between components, create and monitor data availability and validation tests, all with an eye on helping us provide the best, most reliable services for our customers.

Job Responsibilities

• Lead testing projects for the Billing Services team within the Data Group.
• Work on validating integrations between various Data Group data pipeline components and the billing workflow.
• Be the proxy for the customer, testing our system as a user would use it.
• Develop and maintain test plans and test execution results.
• Design, develop, maintain, and document test frameworks for unit, regression, integration and black-box testing.
• Work with developers to identify root causes of issues and prevent recurrence of bugs by identifying and recommending code and process improvements.
• Work across teams to coordinate testing efforts with other parts of the organization.

Qualifications/Experience

• 5+ years of software development & automated software testing experience
• Strong knowledge of QA methodologies and tools with demonstrated experience in a Software Engineer in Test role.
• Proficiency in at least one programming language, such as Python, Ruby, Javascript, or similar.
• Demonstrated ability to debug production applications in a cloud-based environment (such as AWS or GCS).
• Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins or Teamcity preferred, experience with container based deployments is a plus.
• Familiarity with creating queries in SQL (such as BigQuery, MySQL, Postgres) and NoSQL (such as MongoDB, DynamoDB, Google Cloud Datastore) databases.
• Experience with testing REST API services using automated and manual testing tools and Linux command line.
• Proficiency in Linux server administration.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, reporting, analytical and problem solving skills.
• Comfortable working in an agile/scrum setting.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or similar technical field strongly preferred.
• Analytics/big data experience is strongly preferred.
