Engineering at Brex

What you’ll do

As an engineer on the core languages team you will be defining how Kotlin and graphQL are written at Brex. Work you will do will impact every backend developer at Brex. You will be writing libraries, and abstractions to empower all of Brex Engineering. 

You'll have the opportunity to learn and push the frontier of providing the best financial software experience to help companies grow. You’ll be encouraged to be metric and data-driven and to think creatively to help Brex scale and get prepared for the new markets we are about to enter. 

Responsibilities

  • Write and maintain libraries for Kotlin and graphQL.
  • Working on identifying reliability and performance improvements on our backend stack (grpc and graphQL)
  • Deep functional expertise in Kotlin and graphQL to understand and debug Brex eng wide problems. 
  • Apply functional expertise in Kotlin and graphQL to understand and debug brex eng wide problems. 
  • Define best practices around Kotlin and graphQL on how code should be written

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional experience in a software engineering role or equivalent experience
  • Experience building and designing scalable backend systems
  • Experience working with SQL or NoSQL databases
  • Experience working with Kotlin
  • Familiarity with software engineering development cycles
  • Ability to hold yourself and the team to high standards
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Bonus points

  • Experience collaborating with experts in product, design, and operations.
  • Familiarity with functional programming languages
  • Experience driving initiatives at a broader level across an organization or company
  • Strong writing skills
  • Proactive approach

Location

  • Must be working in Brazil at the start of role.
